I have a 1991 e34, get it serviced regularly and in great condition, passed the nct first time last month. Today when I started the car up the radio is completely dead -no lights no sound nothing. everything else in the car still works ie dash board lights, on board computer. Radio was working perfectly last night.

Have no idea what casued this or what the issue is?

    thanks

Check fuses on fuse board and if its not that try back of radio / on live feed to back of radio,

I thought that it might be the fuse, didnt have time today to check properly but will take a look tomorrow

forgot to mention -that when I would turn the engine back on after the car being off, the odd time the on button light would appear on the radio but nothing else at all ie no other lights or sound -im thinking it might then be just the radio face itself is the cause

    thanks

Probably an isolated radio fault. If the faceplate isnt seating 100% it wont power up. Ive had them die in an instant like that when driving due to the faceplate connectors not seating properly.

Just buy a new radio.. :P

thanks for all replies, yes that is sounding the most likely and also the best -I regret not keeping the original tape player in, when i bought the car all those years ago it had the original but I asked the garage to take it out and put in a cd player one, they kept the original

but yes, new radio would be the best solution all round
