I have a Dell 6400 Laptop that works fine except I cannot get sound even though icons appear. I have loaded all the correct drivers so it looks as if the problem is hardware also every so often it will go BSOD. Is there any recommended software that i could do to run a diagnostics check to try and find the problem?

    Cheers.

Grab a Linux Live CD (e.g. Ubuntu or Mint), see if the sound works and do a bit of stress testing.

It comes up with Error Code 0141 related to Hard Drive. (HDD is s fresh SSD drive)

Also Error 0322 related to a faulty LCD inverter.

Could any of the above cause a BSOD?

a non recoverable error on the drive the operating system could cause a BSOD

on Linux you can , if you search hard enough for it , get a program that randomly changes bytes in memory , so you machine can crash at any time - if you thing that's weird check out suicide linux, one typo on the command line and it deletes all it's files

    (no not exactly user friendly)

NB. on some laptops there is a physical volume control on the laptop, they are usually well hidden
