too much or a fair price?
Nct til 06/14, 60000 miles. Half leather interior, decent cd player.
Looks in good condition and getting it checked out shortly.
    How does that price sound?

Private sale or from a dealer?

Seems a bit on the high side for a private sale given it's age. If it is in good condition and mechanical order I'd offer €5,500 max for it.

Too much. Offer 4,150. Don't settle on more than 4,450

It's titanium spec they are more desirable as they have most of the extra's. It's a 1.6 so it can carry it's own weight which it needs to be able to do as the mk2 has a heavy chasis. I reakon the price is just at the top end of what they are selling for at the moment. It might be worth the 6k depending on the condition of the car. There's alot more to choose from for your 6k though.

    Thanks lads.
What would you recommend as an alternative?
Im not a car person at all.
    Looking for a 1.6 2004-2006, budget is a max of 6000.

We got €6000 for a 2006 1.4 Zetec about 2 months ago so the price sounds about right to me if it is a dealer sale.

Are you a dealer yourself mate?
Its a private sale, its a high spec model, but I kinda have the feeling its still a bit on the high side myself. Like i say tho, my first car and I'm a bit clueless as to the value of them. It was advertised at 6900, which I think was very optimistic.

Maybe I'm missing something but carzone at least rates these cars higher in price than what other posters have mentioned here. All depends on mileage, condition dealer/private sale and credibility of guarantee if dealer. I'd be looking for FSH and low enough mileage for 6k and would settle on between 4,900 and 5,300 if all worked out with check. It's 4 months off a 7 year old car in fairness

Dont mind Carzone they seem to attract a lot of dreamers. Remember the asking price and selling price are very different.

I would totally dismiss carzone price valuations. Completely unrealistic.

Mostly main dealer advertise there with insanely overpriced cars.

Why go to main dealer to buy a 2006 focus anyway? Plenty of tidy ones from indies and private. I never understood the main dealer 'premium price' thing anyway, unless you're buying a brand new car (never understood that either).:)

what are the better sites to view cars for sale on?

A lot of the main dealer and not so main dealers advertise there...as do private sales. I like the layout of that site..just curious.

I find Donedeal fairly realiatic price wise. I think sellers decide on a site and then check out the price of similar cars on that site. Carzone prices have been inflated since the internet.

. Accept dealer prices are inflated but even private sales look in better nick than a lot of the donedeal cars. Might be worth a "challenge" thread I.e - "find the best example of x car at Y price" sorta thing- would be interesting to see what sites hit the mark the best.

Ya definitley I agree Carzone seem to have straighter cars. I know that sounds ridiculous but I trawl both sites daily and its easy to spot the difference.

A 1.6 titanium is a very desirable model. Can't really be compared with an lx 1.8 ffv with no hubcaps in 'Garda Patrol' navy with no nct, or a zetec with 50% more mileage

    Doesn't mean a 2k plus premium either....

That is exactly what it means actually.

    Here's one on Donedeal, 6k.

You picked probably the two worst examples of a 2006 Ford Focus out there, the saloon fetch alot less than hatchbacks, both bog standard models, equally rough looking condition, 1.8 ffv which nobody wants, missing hubcaps, least desireable colours and are comparing them against a rare sought after 3dr higher spec Titanium model.

While €6k is a bit expensive for the Titanium model it doesn't sound too back compared to those two pieces of ****.
    Here's one on Donedeal, 6k.

I reckon that is the one the OP is looking at.

Nope. Not it my book. Asking prices don't mean anything

Just because you don't think it is worth the money doesn't mean it is over-priced. The price a car will fetch depends on how much someone is willing to pay for it. With respect I think I am in a better position to judge these things than you are.

Yep, thats it. Decided against it based on an assessment of it.

What areas did the car fall down on, and what was the test drive like?

george ,you seem a knowledgeable man on motor matters(sorry about the Audi),
but if you are a garage man selling a car for 6 k with the obligations re warranty etc that are placed on you, then no way should a private seller expect to get your price.

    Regards Rugbyman

I take your point but the Titanium 1.6 3dr model is more desirable and therefore should command more money in a like for like situation than the car we got €6k for. I agree that €6k private is at the upper end of what the car is worth but some of the figures being quoted in this thread are just not realistic for the car in question.

And in fact the Donedeal ad says 6K or nearest offer, so there's some wiggle room there.

The Titanium was only offically available here in 4 or 5 door from 2010 onwards before that 3 door only. Up to that the equivilant was the Ghia in 4 or 5 door with slightly different trim and spec.

And the 3 door in 06->10 was only available in a 1.6

Just sell the megane, dealer will only give you small change for it anyway.
