    Yup;)

The performance has to be better than Beijing. We have had the following top 16 performances:

    1) Heffernan - 50k Walk
    2) Heffernan - 20k Walk
    3) Loughnane - 20k Walk
    4) 4x400m Relay
    5) Britton - 10000m
    6) O'Rourke - 100m H
    7) Cuddihy 400m

This is certainly better than in Beijing, where I do not recall as many top 16 performances (Heff, Olive, Hesh but who else? McGettigan maybe)

Don't get me wrong, there have been a lot of disasters in these games (Pena, Hesh, Ryan, Cragg, Len) but it hasn't been all doom and gloom at all, once you take a step back and look at things.

    Haha. Very well said! :D

However there are some VERY positive spins on that AAI article, namely the Paul Hession running only 0.1 slower than his heat in 2008. What a pointless stat!

There were undoubtedly some good performances from the Irish athletics team in London but not to paper over the cracks, this was supposed to be the best prepared team ever heading to the Olympics but due to one thing or another more athletes than not didn't perform on the day. Hopefully they give as much assessment to the many areas where changes need to be made to give the athletes the best possible chance to be successful over the next couple of Olympic cycles rather than basking in the glow of an outstanding performance from Rob Heffernan and a few other encouraging performances from the likes of Brendan Boyce, Laura Reynolds and Fionnuala Britton.
The athletes of course who didn't get the best out of themselves must take responsibility for their performances but a lot of blame must be left at the door of those supposed to be preparing the best Irish team possible for the Olympics. I think the main thing that irks most athletics fans is the fact that some genuine future prospects where left behind, missing out on a valuable learning experience, whilst others who weren't near A standard form in the 2012 season where sent, seemingly without a question of their current form.

On the upside though, we have many bright prospects for the future so hopefully the AAI can get their act together now and nurture talent to help yield a successful period for Irish athletics rather than hoping to stumble into success thanks to the talent of some outstanding young athletes coming through.

Harry Gorman attended his 14th Olympic Games!

What's the purpose of this statistic. He travelled to the Games as a spectator! Who cares!

I agree with Dan Man. It would be nice to see the AAI do up an analysis on the performance in London, highlighting the positives AND negatives, and present a plan for how performances will be improved in Rio.

    These stats are absolutely pointless.

Patsy McGonagle became the first Irish man to manage the team in 3 Olympic Games.

    Like anyone cares.

Thanks for that. Thought it was just me who was bothered by this sort of thing. I know lots of people will cry "grammar nazi" "off topic" etc etc. But christ almighty, is basic english too much to expect now ?

No, it's not just you. Perhaps the ones who know (and care) should be more vocal.
It amuses me to read deep and meaningful rants that include "he should of" etc.

And the most frequent error on the ART forum, by my reckoning, is the various tenses of the verb "run".

I run. I ran. I have run. (Not "I have ran".)

That's all for now. (Except for you, Trashcan, if you are complaining, you should be purer than pure. "Christ" and "English" are proper nouns that should be capitalised.)

We could rename the forum Athletics / Running /Threadmills.

That reminds me that some editing needs to be done on the events forum title and description. Make yourself useful and get requesting Robin.

But before he does, he should learn how to spell treadmill.

I was going to point that out but I thought (was hoping) that his spelling was a joke.

    It was deliberate. :D

Wouldn't surprise me if a search of this forum has more results for Threadmill than Treadmill the number of times I see the thread type mentioned.

I suspected that. But I went along with it anyway. :p

Touché. Got me there. :o But in my defence it was laziness, rather than ignorance.
