Insurance for a tablet

I'm looking to buy a tablet for college and the Asus Transformer TF300 looks like it will let me handwrite notes, watch films and web browsing but the screen cracking issues means I need to get some sort of accidental damage insurance in case something happens. Currys was charging €170, which means 670 for a tablet, and SquareTrade was €80 for 3 years but they only cover people living in the UK.

Has anyone found a good plan that is available in Ireland?

Thanks! That website is the best I've seen so far, only gives 1 year though but it may have to do.

Why not cover it as part of your home insurance, it will almost certainly be cheaper then one of the specialist gadget insurers.

They usually hit you with a large excess

Don't think our insurance covers accidental damage. Only if the house gets broken into and damages if the house gets damaged by flooding, fire etc.
My mum said she will double check the policy but doubts it.

I went to insure my Iphone under a house policy and it was €50 to add it, but with a €250 excess.

I would literally have to blow it up before I could bother claiming.

The house insurance does cover accidental but no excess was mentioned. Does the excess mean I have to cover the first 50 (lets say the excess is 50) of the repair with the insurance paying the rest (say 150 if the damage was 200) or does the damage need to be worth above 50. Need to add my computer so can ask about excess. If they do have a huge excess I'll just go for the insurance linked above.

Yes, exactly. An excess will just avoid unnecessary claims for the insurer (i.e. people claiming for €75 when the excess is €50 and the insurer must p€25). Bit of a simplified example, but you get the idea. Plus, you always have to take into account that a claim will likely increase your premium come renewal.

Like in my example above, my phone at the time was worth approx. €450. Barring the phone being completely destroyed I knew that it was unlikely that I would ever claim as the excess was €250 and I knew that Vodafone would repair most normal damage (i.e. water damage, general battery and screen problems) for a standard €180.

    It just wasn't worth it.

I then upgraded to a more expensive phone, and went with the in store insurance which is costing me €6.99 per month. Not bad, but things like having to report to the Gardai if it stolen within 24hrs etc is a bit of a joke.
