I got an A1 but a big thing in Biology is negative marking. If you put down 4 examples when it asks for 3 for example and one example is incorrect it will cancel a correct one as well and you will only get marks for 2 examples even if you had 3 correct and 1 incorrect.

    It's an odd system :/

I got a B1 and was delighted with it!
I always found Biology hard. It really is just learning off and subjects that feature strongly in that aren't my strong point.
I just scraped a C1 in the mock (65%) and really worked at it afterwards, so was very happy and proud of my well-deserved (IMO) B1.
    :)

Biology was one of my weakest subjects, got a C3 in the mocks and the teacher said she didn't even know how I got that! (yeah she was a lovely woman:rolleyes:)

I did a fair bit of study from then until the LC and it really paid off, got a B3 and was delighted.

Got an A1 :D To be honest I wasn't expecting much less. I adore Biology! <3

The secret is definitely to know the marking schemes and certain exam terminology because one word in a question will tell you how much to write. E.g. "Give an account.... = 2 pieces of info etc.

Got an A1 and fully agree with Boeing777. For weeks before the tests I would do practise exams and mark myself until I was writing the definitions as they were verbatim in the marking scheme. I did the same with Chemistry and also got an A1!

Got an A1 as well and yeah, I'd basically do an exam paper in one sitting then correct it using the marking scheme and eventually you familiarise yourself with how to phrase things and how much information to give. You'll also see that there are certain questions that come up again and again which gives you an idea of areas to focus on.
When it comes to experiments, don't get bogged down by measurements and tiny details. Focus on apparatus/chemicals (and why they're used) a few bullet points on method and results.
And do extra questions in the exam! I did all the short questions, the three experiment questions and only left out one section of the long questions - the timing is reeeeally generous and they'll count your best ones, so don't rush out of the exam hall once the bare minimum is done.

Got an A1. Basically I just had a hardback copy in which I did every past exam paper and used the marking scheme so I knew exactly what they wanted. I also looked at the book to see what information stood out to me but was never actually asked before. For example I don't believe they ever asked a question looking for the purines and pyrimidines but they did this year.

Did the same for chemistry and also got an A1 so it must work!

an A2. I wanted an A1 but on the day i thought I'd bombed it and was expecting a B. So I'm delighted :)

It has... But I found myself writing in stuff sometimes.
In saying that though some of what I wrote in wouldn't be examined at LC level! I suppose I was just showing off to myself :pac:

I got an A1. I stayed up all night before the exam and read the whole book. Surprising how much obscure information sticks in short term memory! But I also just loved biology and found the information very easy to remember.

I think with biology you have to be very specific with how you word things, as sometimes even if you have something essentially correct but don't include a word that's important, you won't get the marks.

I don't think the percentages of As and Bs were really lower than last year though, as far as I remember from glancing at the statistics.
