Hello all, I read this one somewhere a while back.

As most of us know, the camera meter can get it badly wrong when exposing for reflected light. So one way to get around this is to use a grey card. But who carries a grey card around with them all the time??

Instead of a grey card, just point the camera at the palm of your hand making sure your hand is not in shadow and use the cameras meter to "over-expose" by 1 to 1 1/3 stops.

I find it "handy", (pun intended) :)
