    Folks,

I couldn't find any recent information on the above so started a new thread. Mods please move if needs be.

Basically my AC adapter failed on me last year and my laptop went unused for months as I didn’t have the money to spend 100euro on a new one. When I did eventually get the new one I found that my battery was dead and wouldn't charge so i tried leaving it on charge all night but to no avail (the laptop doesn't even recognise the battery now)

    I have 2 questions:

Firstly is there a safe way to get my battery working again or is it dead as a dodo? and secondly is there anywhere I can buy a reliable replacement battery that won’t cost me the €150 Dell are looking for?

    Thanks in advance

There is always a risk with 3rd party battery replacements. They may not have the advertised capacity, the longevity may not as good as an original part from the manufacturer, you jeopardize any warranty you may have left on the laptop. Worst case scenario, the battery goes up in flames.

Factors which you will have to weigh against the rip-off -and there is no other word for it - through the laptop manufacturer, Dell in this case.

Yeah i have always been wary of buying any sort of non genuine battery online be it phone/laptop for those very reasons. €150 for a replacement battery on a laptop that cost me 1k 2 years ago is really sticking in my gut though.

I take it there is no way of reviving mine?

ps i have found replacement batteries such as
    http://www.laptopbatteries.ie/Studio-XPS-16-%26-Others-%28See-Extended-Description%29/36066
not sure how trust worthy the site is though.

    I pretty much doubt it.

Here's an excellent resource for everything batteries, worth bookmarking for further references.
