Anyone else doing this? It's on Sunday 16th September - 11am start for half mara runners, and 12 noon for 10K runners. I did the half mara in 2010, and enjoyed the route.

Just to let you know, it's not pancake flat, there are a couple of hills, but nothing major. It's a nice rural route for the most part. For me, I found the last couple of miles bit of a drag, the castle was in sight, but didn't seem to be getting any nearer :o

Challenging but I would not class as tough. If no wind the last 3 miles are fast.

Might give it a gothis year, think first year it was on it fell on my wedding anniversary so would have been killed if I did it ;)

Will be doing this as prep for DCM, did it two years ago. Nice course, only a few moderate hills, no long drags, the last 3 are downhill to flat which makes for a quick finish. Wind played a factor last year as people returned to the ring road for the final few miles. Most of it is run on quiet country roads which is a positive for me. Nice to finish at the castle too.

Anybody know who the pacers are?

Ran the route this morning, strong head wind when i returned to the ring road again. I've ran it 3 or 4 times now and the wind is there everytime so id prepare for that in a couple weeks time.

    Great morning for it though

Thats good to know thanks. Around what stage of the race is that?

Its the very start of Mile 11 and the head wind lasts for about 1.2 miles, after half a mile it reaches the crest of the small incline and you can push on for the rest of the race then as its downhill and and then flat from there to the end. I found that half a mile tough last year though i can still remember it!

    Here is the course:

The pacers won't make you run a faster time. They will stop you going off too quick is all.

I personally wouldn't run it again. It ain't a simple course but if you keep doing it you will know every hill. When you are doing mile upto turn off at mile 3 or 4 you will know if wind is against you for the drag at 11. As a question what times did you do the course in today and what time are you hoping to do it in 3 weeks

Yeah i know what you mean, I only ran it cos im too lazy to think of other routes! I find though you are alot more exposed to the wind at mile 11 than when you turn off at mile 4 as i dont really notice then.

Training for DCM so Kilkenny half is not really the goal, ran it as an LSR this morning at about 1:58

Goal is to run it sub 1:35 on the day.

And they waited until Phoenix park half was full. Maybe an insurance problem

Athlone Half is on day before this, free beer at the end!!

Was looking forward to this one. No specific reason given on the fb page or official website, which is bad form imo. Was considering doing the Dublin half but entries are now closed. Some people suggesting that an unofficial version should go ahead. I wouldn't mind running it as preparation for DCM.

I know it's no consolation but this is the Half-Marathon season so there's an abundance of half's on over the next 6-7 weeks.

A few are within 60mins of Dublin.

This was the reason given by email-
    ....................................................
    Dear Athletes

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have had to cancel this year's
edition of the Kilkenny Half Marathon due to take place on the 16th
    September 2012.

We will be giving a full refund on your entry fee. At this time we would
like you to reply to this E-mail if your address details have changed since
you registered on line with Run Ireland. If there has been no change to your
address details do not reply to this e-mail as we have all the details we
    need from Run Ireland.

We are dealing with a large volume of entries so please be patient, we will
get to you all in the coming week.

    Yours Regrettably

    Alan Galavan

    ........................
I've not received a refund as yet, and my email is being bombarded with emails from disgruntled applicants who are mass emailing complaints to everybody involved because the apology email from the organizers contained everybody's email details:mad:

Yeah I got mine a week ago, I got an email a good few days before that asking if I wanted the refund paid into my bank account or by postal order.

Thanks for that bejaysus, do you know the email address of the KK half, I think I need to get on to them in order to get the money back as it hasn't arrived yet. Do you know if some people received their refund in the form of a postal order?

I received my refund through postal order as I did not want to email my bank details. I just emailed them and asked for it through postal order.

Here is the email address: info@kilkennymarathon.ie

and this is the email I received 13/09:

    "Dear Athletes

We would like to start by apologising to you all for the lack of contact since our first e-mail about your refunds. We can assure you that a full refund will be made to all entrants of the Half Marathon and 10k. There are two methods available to you 1. Bank Transfer 2. Postal order. if you would prefer to receive your refund by bank transfer please reply to this e-mail with your account number and sort code. We hope to get a refund to you by the middle of next week so please reply as soon as possible if you would prefer to receive by bank transfer otherwise you will receive it by postal order We are very sorry for everyone who put in months of hard training with their sights set on our event and we hope that you were able to find an alternative event at short notice. We had to cancel the event due to circumstances beyond our control that we would prefer not to disclose at this time and respect if people would leave us to disclose those details later

No but they did say it would take time for them to get to everyone. How much time I don't know. Did they send you an email?

They sent me the original mail that you have eluded to on here but since that nothing. They havn't replied to any of my emails so far so I'm not sure where I stand or whether it will ever be sorted. It's started to drag on a bit longer than I had imagined tbh.
