Just found this on the RTE New Season Brochure for 2012/2013.

The average time of the programme is 25 minutes each.

    "21st Century Railway

This three part series follow the creation decline of Ireland's Railways. Railways have been in Ireland for around 180 years. When they first arrived they brought cutting technological change. The railways took over from canal as the mass transportation of people and goods. Having once enjoyed a golden age, railways were set to enter a period of decline - but today their revival is being championed once again. A sort of renaissance has taken place right across the network and, despite the current recession, is set to continue, albeit slowly, into the future, bringing the railways out of decades of neglect and into line with 21st Century expectations."

This series sounds like the one to watch for this year. I cannot wait for it.

    "21st Century expectations"

    What would these be exactly?

200kph+ trains, not going to happen
Electric operation - not going to happen
high frequency country wide routes - not going to happen
fully online ticketing, planning, real time updates - might get there

I think Ireland's 21st century will be a bit more like 1990s for everywhere else
