MSI WIndPad, Zoostorm, to name but a few

If you're looking for more than a shabby Atom CPU and can afford to spend big bucks, check Motioncomputing's range of enterprise-grade tablets

Why should he? Neither tablet can run Windows 7... and WoA certainly isn't compatible with conventional Windows software.

Where did the OP specify the windows 7 part? WoA might be crap but there will be an x86 version to you forget.

If people ask for a "Windows tablet", they usually want to run software on it that doesn't work with Android or iOS

No, there won't be an x86 version of Windows RT/WoA. There will be Surface variants with Intel CPUs wich will run Windows 8 Professional (64-bit) but they won't hit the shelves until next year.

Jesus your agressive for no reason,

Of course there wont be an x86 version of WoA thats basically a contradiction, but there WILL be a Microsoft Surface x86 tablet.

One of the best windows tablets available now is the samsung slate, not by any means cheap but its more powerful than most mid range laptops.
    http://www.samsung.com/ie/consumer/pc-peripherals/notebook-computers/ultra-portable/XE700T1A-A01UK
It's also half the weight and a lot thinner than Motioncomputing efforts which are, quite frankly, fugly.

The Surface is reportedly debuting October 26, coinciding with the launch of the Windows 8 OS. The cost (believe it when I see it) will start from $199.00 to compete with Nexus 7 according to here.

That's the ARM-based version with Windows RT. The Intel version with Windows 8 will go on sale in Q1 2013.

Old at this stage but maybe you can find one second hand - I love my Iconia W500

Have the Samsung Series 7 Slate. It's nice as hell but cant call it my primary device. The thing craves to be taken out to the world and actually used.

Ya i need it to run some MS access applications.

Need it to be quite cheap (< 250), as will probably buying more than 3/4.

No bother, good luck with that, when you do find the shop with them would you pick me up some fairy dust when you're there please?

Unless you buy them 2nd hand, you won't find Windows tablets for €250 or less. The cheapest one I have seen was the Fizzbook, not really a tablet but a netbook with a flip display that can be used as a tablet, they cost around €320 and don't seem to be sold anymore (no surprise as they were utter cr@p).

The new ARM-bsed MS Surface (launch price $199) tablets will ship with MS Office 2013 RT (the ARM variant which does not feature MS Access). Little is known about Office RT yet as it is far from being ready, thus the new tablets will only have a preview which can be upgraded to the final version later next year. (MS never miss a good opportunity to ridicule themselves in a haste) ;)

MS Surface Pro with Intel processors will be much more expensive but they can run the regular MS Office 2013 with all the bells and whistles. MS Surface Pro won't be available until next year and I suppose, they will cost well over €500 (if you want MS Office 2013 Pro on it).

Don't quite agree with the wording, but hes right, you haven't a hope of getting one for that price

I just need to be able to run ms applications on it, so installing the access runtime environment would be enough. Anyway looks like ill wait till early 2013 before re-visiting this again. Cheers

Actually my retail experience tells me when a customer asks that question, then I ask "Why" 90% of the time it's because they don't know you can create and access Word, Excel, and Powerpoint files on a tablet. Access Databases on the other hand, I haven't looked into it, or seen it.

Perhaps in Ireland. Windows 7 tablets are already out there. I've got one in my hand right now. Upgrading that to windows 8 professional is painless.

cheapest thing I've seen. Emphasis on cheap. Slow CPU, 1GB of ram and by the time you get the OS and Office installed, you'll have pretty much no extra space to do anything else on it with only 32GB on it.

What's that gadget got to do with Windows RT??? And it's not a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet either. :D

Hey, we're not that much of a backwater that we couldn't get Core iX based tablets with Windows 7 here, they're just bloody expensive (as is the Samsung you have linked). You also get cheaper Atom-based tablets with Windows 7 here (I'm sure they can be upgraded to Windows 8 Pro just as "painless") but they still cost around 500 yoyos, twice as much as the OP wants to spend on it. ;)

And I'm sure, the Surface Pro will cost a helluva lot more than the ARM-tablet with Windows RT for $199... whenever it will "surface". ;)

That's actually a pretty good find. Wonder where you can get those here... Archos is a French crowd, so it shouldn't be much of a problem. That 32 GB HDD is probably flash/SSD, so it should be quite snappy. Normally, 10.1" Atom tablets go for around €500 here.
