Is it the gears at the end of the motor. a bit of plastic might have sheered off and got stuck

Thought I'd ask here rather than start a new thread.
I've had a Triton T90si for about 7 years, no problems.

The last few days the pump (i think) has been much louder than usual, sounded like it was dying, and then this morning it packed up.
Only a trickle of water coming through no matter what setting I choose.

SHould I get a plumber to check, or an electrician, or should I just replace the shower? What's the average life? It's been there seven years by an average of 3-4 showers per day. Would appreciate any advice?

    7 years? Good or bad?

You think I should call an electrician (specialist in showers) before I go and buy a new one?

If the brushes are gone there's a good chance the motor commutator is worn away too, in that case it's a replacement motor.

At that stage I'm probably better off buying a new one altogether?

Same symptoms recently. Unit almost 10 years old with regular use.

It was the carbon brushes that were worn away. Got a new set in heat merchants for €20 ish and it working fine again. Though be warned it is a tricky job fitting and re-assembling the unit again

Was it good as new in terms of power etc?

Yep as good as new. It was originally making a high pitched whirling noise, but when I took the cover off it was obviously the brushes as I could see the unit arcing and a serious amount of carbon dust

Instant showers have a life expt of 7-10 years after that they start failing on parts, worth fixing once, mot twice, if you have any douby about fixing ring the shower doctor, he is the official Triton and mira service agent.

Are all lights suddenly going out? Might need a new pull cord

    Hey

The light won't go on at all now so the shower isn't working now! Does that mean it's the cord?! It's probably not the worst thing that could happen to it?

There only 10 or 15 euro, if there turned on and off daily they do wear out.

    Hi Guys,

Sorry for hijacking this thread but A few months back my triton t90si began to go hot then cold, after a few days the problem seemed to resolve itself. Last night before I used it there was a loud bang and it just died. I opened the cover(excuse my ignorance on part names) the section above where the water flows out there was a round connector at the bottom with two blue wires coming off it had been blackened. I will try post up photos!! and the blackened area on the reverse of the shower lid in black in this area! Can this unit be replaced and how much??? Is it an electricians job?? Or do I just get a brand new shower??
Im using an iPad and I can't seem to upload any photos!!!

    Rookie

the back dust is the result of the carbon brushes. As they wear down they create this dust - nothing to worry about. Most likely the carbon brushes are worn on the unit and need replacement but can't be certain until we see the images.

See the attached link of demo on replacing carbon brushes. Expect to pay approx. €25 for a new set in Heat Merchants

Closer investigation, the thermostat at the water outlet is blown. I took it off and brought it to a local supplier, the outlet comes with the thermostat and will cost €30 to replace. So hopefully this is all thats wrong with it.

Check hose, shower head for blockages
After that the two things that can cause that are pump and element

Can the brushes be fitted with the motor still in the unit? Or do you have to remove it?

Pretty sure its the brushes, lost of carbon dust, about 8 years old, making that grinding noise, low pressure, checked the hose, shower head and filter and all seem clean. Cleaned them anyway, no joy!

Anyone got contact details for someone that can fix this?

Google "shower repair" the top 3 adds are Dublin guys. You'll pay around €100 for new brushes supplied & fitted. You could be as-well going for a new shower (around €300 supplied & fitted) if the funds can stretch that far. :)
