RTE and the other news sites have a general points outline from 00:01am Monday, so you can look if you're still awake :)

Normally popular courses are mentioned in articles, with full outlines in physical papers (get yourself to a 24hr Tesco/newsagents, they'll sell you the paper with the supplement after midnight)

It also ends up on Boards after a few hours, but waiting for screenshots is nerve-wracking.

Remember that the points are only decided based on the applicants that year. There is no solid way to accurately predict the points until offers are made.

    Okay ..
So, if I were to get my scripts viewed and appealed, would all this need to be done before monday so the CAO know my new points(if they were to change)?

It won't be done by Monday, appeals can last until about October. I'm not sure how offers work if you manage to get higher points, but as far as I know they don't chuck you out of college if you somehow go down.

Butttt getting in in the first place might be the problem.

Ohwell, trying not to think about this yet and enjoy my success.

    Thanks for your help. :)

If your points go up in the appeals you can be offered a place on a course on your CAO (as long as you have enough points obv!) although you may have already started your first offer course and will have the choice whether to stay in the course you're in or change.

You can't view your scripts until a weekend set out for them which I think is either the end of August or the start of September. Then you have to send away the appeal, and won't hear back until late September/early October. The points you have now are what the offers will be based on on Monday, however if you go up on the recheck and have enough points for a higher course, you may have the option to transfer to the new course (if you had started another one) or you might be guaranteed a place next year.

I really need some helpful info. on this as there seems to be different opinions on it everywhere I look.
I got 510 yesterday. So happy with it, more than I ever thought I could get.
However, the points for the course I want last year were 515. I know that they could completely change on Monday, but still I don't think I'll be too far off the mark.
I also got accepted for HEAR, so providing they don't increase too much then I should be okay.
But I am thinking about viewing 2 of my scripts just incase. 5 points may not be that diufficult to make up.
I got a B2 in Home Ec with a TON of study, as opposed to an A1 in the mock with literally no study.
I honestly thought I might get an A2 at least at it was the lowest one I had to count.
I also got a B1 in Geography that I think could be on the verge of an A2.
The exam went brilliant for me, I thought, and was kinda suprised.
So basically, is it worth getting these 2 viewed with my teacher, and then maybe appealed?
If they do get re-checked and my grades go up giving me enough points, will I able to take my first choice if the spaces aren't filled or if I appeal to the college?
Or will I definately be eligble for the following year?
While I am waiting for the results of an appeal can I still accept another course and then drop out if I have the other one in the bag?

    Thanks!

Thanks for the great info. :)
I started a new thread concerning this before checking the responses here, not a smart idea haha.
I don't think it can hurt to try anyways.

It's worth viewing them, then if you think you deserved better appeal them. If there is a space & you go up you might get your course, but if there's no space you'll be guaranteed a place next year. You can accept another course & drop it if you get offered your higher choice later.

    Hi OP,

I was 5 points short for my first choice when I did my LC 2 years ago. I got an offer for my second choice and accepted. I went and viewed my scripts just out of interest anyway and my dad noticed that my Business marks had been added up wrong. Also noticed in french that in the comprehension section where the question was give 2 examples I would only get one mark because id give three examples (my teachers used to say they always mark you on ur best two and to write more so thats what i had done). Appealed both papers - got from B1 to A2 in Business and A2 to A1 in French.

It took about a month for that to happen, but when it did I got refunded the cost of the appeals and my course was switched pretty swiftly. Luckily enough for me ,both courses were in same college but it did mean i missed the start where people get to know each other etc. Didnt matter really in the end! Therefore id really advise you to look at ur papers as the examiners are only humans and mistakes can happen - so if ur gut feeling is you did better than the mark you got, go ahead and review your papers you have nothing to lose!

Best of luck on Monday :)

    Hi,
Just wanted to make sure I'm right ,
If I were to accept the offer I get on Monday , do I still get an offer in round 2 if I meet the criteria??
I'm not optimistic about getting the points I want in round one ,maybe not even round 2 so I want to at least have 1 option even if it isn't my top choice but also don't want to ruin the possible chance of getting my top choice.
    Thanks.

I've already handed in my sheet for reviews yesterday, but I've just been thinking that I'd like to see another script. Any way I could do this, or is it too late since I've handed it up? :)

If you are offered say your second choice on Monday, you are still eligible to be offered your first choice in Round Two regardless of whether or not you accept or reject your Round One offer.

So for arguments sake your choices look like this:

    1. Science in UCD
    2. Science in UL
    3. Science in UCC
    4. Science in NUIG

and you get 500 points in the LC and meet all requirements for all three courses

and the points in Round One come out as follows

    Science UCD 505
    Science UL 495
    Science UCC 480
    Science NUIG 520

You would not be eligible for your first choice, so you would be offered UL. You can accept or reject this offer. You cannot be offered UCC even if you wanted it over UL at this stage because you put UL higher on your list. So at the end of Round One your list now looks like this

    1. Science in UCD
    2. Science in UL * offered
    3. Science in UCC
    4. Science in NUIG

    Round Two:

Places become available in all four courses

    Science UCD is now 490
    Science UL is now 490
    Science UCC 470
    Science NUIG 450

You cannot be offered UCC or NUIG because you have been offered UL. You will not be offered UL again. But you are now eligible for UCD and will be offered this in Round Two which you can accept or reject. You do not have to accept a Round Two offer even if it is higher up your original list. You can stick with your UL course. If you accept the UCD course, automatically that frees up the UL one to be offered to someone else in Round Three.

All of this can only happen if places become available in Round Two and points drop to a level which you have.

Viewing of scripts is free and you can view as many as you like. Forms are available from your school and viewing should take place around the weekend of Sept 1st. Usually Friday evening and Saturday morning.

If you choose to get a paper rechecked there is a fee of €40 per exam. If your grade changes you will be refunded the fee. Appeal grades are released in mid October. If you have a grade change as a result of an appeal and your points go up in October making you eligible for a course which you missed out on in the original offers you will be offered a place on that course.

You do not have to accept the offer, you might have started another course and be perfectly happy where you are. Some courses will allow you to start the course late and you will have to do the catching up yourself. Not ideal, but that's the main issue. If you are given this option you could choose to defer your place and start next year having your place confirmed.

Some courses which are fairly specialised (like Medicine) and can only have a certain number of places on the course may offer you a place but you might not be able to start the course until the following academic year. It's up to you at that stage whether you want to take the place the following year or not.

Thanks so much for that post! Would you mind explaining this to me? Here are my choices, and last year's points for them:

    1. Biomedical Science - NUIG: 515
    2. Undem Science - NUIG: 370

Got 515 in my exams. If I got a first round offer for Undem Science, and accepted it, I could still accept Biomedical Science in the 2nd round instead? And if I didn't get a 2nd round offer for Biomed, I could just keep Undem Science anyways?

    Thanks again :)

Yes you can if you accept Biomed in Round Two it means you are automatically giving up Undem Science as you can't have two places at once, but you don't have to accept Biomed in Round Two if say you started in Undem Science and were happy with the course.

You can always move up a place on your list of choices in subsequent offers if places become available and you become eligible points wise. It might even be the case that you accept Undem Science in Round One, get no offer in Round Two and Biomed becomes available in Round Three and you get the offer.

Word of warning, there are very few offers in Round Three, so I wouldn't be relying on it.

    Nope, Psychology in UCD!
I just checked again there and I think the round 2 offers were actually 510 last year so feeling a bit more hopeful. :)

Thanks for all the great advice.
Iv'e decided that if I'm not happy with my offer on Monday then I'm gonna view them with my teachers.
    Then I may appeal them.
I wouldn't mind waiting til' the following year if I knew I was guaraunteed the course. so we'll just wait and see. :)

That's the most sensible approach. Just make sure you get in contact with your teachers and let them know you want them to view scripts with you. They won't automatically turn up. Some may not be available that weekend and some may not be willing. Say your French teacher has headed off to Electric Picnic for the weekend, you may have to enlist another French teacher to look at your paper if they would oblige you. :)

I dont really like or trust my Home Ec teacher (my whole class basically taught ourselves) so I was hoping to ask one of the other Home Ec teachers.
Most of my teachers don't live nearby anyways, but there is one of the Home Ec teachers in the school that I get on with really that lives near me, could I ask her instead do you think or should it be your own teacher?

Same goes for Geography. He doesn't live nearby but I know one that does.

No it can be anyone you want so you can ask those people, but you are only allowed bring in one person at a time, i.e. you can't have a convention around your table. Conditions are pretty much like a library where people look at papers quietly. So when you go to view scripts you'll normally be given a time to view them, so say you get the Friday evening session from 6 - 9, ask one teacher to come in at 6 and the next at 6.30 or whatever, because you don't want them to be hanging around for 2 hours for 15 mins viewing. Again of course as you mention some of your teachers don't live near the school so it would courteous to be ready to view with them on time if they have travelled a distance to help you out.

I think if I decide to view them I'll get in touch with the Principle and see if he knows about any of these teachers coming down for other students and what not. I'll see what he suggests them in terms of the other teachers.

    Thanks. :)

Can you bring in a print out of the marking schemes online?

Out of curiousity.. is there anyone else viewing all scripts even if they did well or don't want to appeal, just viewing them to physically see them and see where you got your marks and didn't? or even just out of curiosity?

    Just thought of this ..
If you viewed one of your scripts with your teacher/principle and it was clear you got a better mark than stated (for example, it said B3 ony our script but you got a B1) would they be obliged to inform somone?

    Just thought of this ..
If you viewed one of your scripts with your teacher/principle and it was clear you got a better mark than stated (for example, it said B3 ony our script but you got a B1) would they be obliged to inform somone?
You got a special form to fill in for "emergency" situations like that and it's rectified without an actual recheck so it's quicker. :)

Also I have a question, guys - my sister is going to view her biology script and probably get it rechecked, but might not. Her teacher will be with her but is she able to view it, then decide later that she wants a recheck, or must she decide right away?

I'm one of these people who is going to view all of my scripts but has no intention of rechecking anything.
    Pure curiosity is all.

I'd love to see the marks that got me an A1 in English and A2 in French.

Also slightly surprised I only got an A2 in Physics so I'd like to see how close I was.

No I mean the other way around.
Say if you were supposed to have gotten a B3, but they accidentally gave you a B1 your results sheet., i.e - You accidentally got better than you should have.

You crack a smile at your teacher and go on your merry way.
I doubt anything would be done about it.

I'll be checking the four subjects I didn't get an A1 in. I got 575 and all my friends are probably going to think I'm so mean to go getting rechecks but I'm hoping for med next year and I'll need all the points I can get!

Also, anybody else think its going to be strange to be able to see and feel the scripts that we slaved over a few months back?

It's weirder saying goodbye to them forever afterwards. </3

Who do you bring to check the results if you're viewing more than one paper?
Should you bring a family member who's good at the subject or teacher?

    I'd go with a teacher.
I'm going in to view my business and econ with my teacher ( I did econ as an extra subject so she only teaches me business but she used to teach econ and is a genius)

Out of curiousity.. is there anyone else viewing all scripts even if they did well or don't want to appeal, just viewing them to physically see them and see where you got your marks and didn't? or even just out of curiosity?

I am...absolutely delighted with results, and won't be appealing anything, just being curious about how I did so well in some subjects! :P

I'm viewing business, economics and english and geography and she only does english so I'd be looking at the others myself. How do you get your english teach to come it? an I repeated not sure if the teachers come in.
