Stuff of fantasy or achievable goal?

A few of us were sitting down at the weekend and got talking about things that we'd love to achieve in golf even things that are highly unlikely to actually happen.

I said i'd love to get a hole in one and play a round of golf in Augusta.

Another one of the lads said he'd like to turn pro at 50 and go on the seniors tour. We were all laughing at the time but it got me thinking could he possible do it. The reason i'm wondering is he has achieved a high level in another sport (GAA). I've seen how dedicated and driven he was to reach such a high level in this sport. He's 33 and playing off 6. Only really started playing in last 3 years and came down from 14 hcap.
Could it be possible to do it? Or would he already need to be off about +2 and playing in top amatuer events.

I know there is a lot that can get in the way but with 100% dedication could it happen?

Pure fantasy i know but nothing else to think about with the rain outside :)

Interesting. He seemed to have a strong amatuer career behing him though.

Definitely achievable. Stephen Grant has done almost exactly what OP is suggesting. Former Sunderland winger/striker who played for Shamrock Rovers for a few seasons. Used to watch him. He was a decent player. Took up golf with a few pals during his 20s and has since turned pro. Been playing in States for last few seasons. Currently gearing up for another shot at European Tour school this winter.

As far as I know he has a wealthy enough background tho. Normal circumstances (family, kids, mortgage, bills etc) probably don't allow a person to achieve what OP is talking about. However, with tunnel vision focus, a level of skill and in the right circumstances I believe it can be done, in principle.

Have been following this guy for the last while. Interesting enough story.
He's got the tunnel vision, admits he doesn't have much natural ability but is trying to get on a nationwide tour after 10,000 hours of practice.

He's been posting a weekly video update for a while now.
