When it comes to purchasing a TV where is your best bet to buy one from?

I'm "wanting" to upgrade my TV possibly over the next few months before Christmas and will be looking for a approx 50".

I know you can buy them from Argos, Tesco, Currys, Amazon etc etc but where would be the BEST place to buy one? Where would you get the best value for money (not cheapest), do you go to the likes of the big name stores, do you buy online, or do you go to an independent retailer.
