Hi, I'm importing from Hong Kong and want to know what the tax and VAT cost is on importing. The value of the goods will be roughly €400. I'm aware that An Post charge €6 or €7..

In order to give you an indication of the duty and VAT, would need to know the commodity.

The duty is calculated over the cost of the product plus freight (or postage)
The VAT @ 23% is calculated over the above plus the duty

If you want to ask Customs direct, contact the Tariff Classification Unit in Nenagh on 067-63469, FAX : 067 32385 or e-mail : tarclass@revenue.ie

Hi, thanks for the reply. The units are being delivered free of charge, the weight is roughly 15kg and it's costing me €350. I emailed Customs Direct today so hopefully I'll get a response back Monday. Thanks
