90's music

Was just listening to today fm this morning in car and radiohead creep was on. Was thinking to myself what a great song and it's a pity we don't hear this type of music on mainstream radio anymore except for some obscure dj's on at some god forsaken hour trying to be "cool" playing this type of music.

We really were spoiled in the mid 90's with some great music. I was a teenager and will always look back with rose tinted spectacles on this time but wow the music was fab. Radiohead, Oasis, Blur, The Verve, even one hit wonders from bands like the Mock Turtles, Cast, the list goes on.

Anyway that's my reminiscing for today.

I imagine that everybody looks back on the music from their teenage years and thinks it's the best.

Some good songs from the 90s,alright.A few classics even.
But for me-it's the 80s!( surprise surprise !)

Music was gone to crap by my late teenage years, so I suspect I'll be forever in the grouping of liking stuff that's meant to be a bit too old

Creep is a fabulous song, my favourite 90's, so is Street Spirit. I have that video still on my phone.
I went back to Uni in the early 90's, remember I had my first proper car (improper does not describe the real first one!) and after a Friday night in Whelans I would drive in to Earlscourt Terrace for Saturday lectures listening to REM "Losing my Religion"........

U2 I adored in the 80's, I always thought they lost the plot in the 90's tbh.

Creep = No.1 90's song. Still sounds great!

I remember coming home from school to put on MTV (when it was good). Some good songs with videos that are etched in my head are the video for Black Hole Sun,
    No Surprises by Radiohead,
    1979 by Smashing Pumkins
    Smells like Teen Spirit Nirvana

and cant forget a bit of mc hammer

    +1 for 80's.

My teenage times were in 90's, I was starting to explore music back then - Nirvana, Radiohead, R.E.M. But when I hit 20 I reminded myself my childhood when my older brothers where playing new-romantic and other 80's music.

This thread made me listen to OMD (Enola gay) ;)

I'm 15 but I really like certain 90's groups. I love Nirvana and a few hip hop acts from the decade ( I would call the Beastie Boys 90s..) but what I love are the groups like Daft Punk and Stardust. They were still on the radio occasionally when I was alot younger and Daft Punk's style always stuck with me. Can never get enough of this song. And what a music video! :P

I'm not sure 90's music was necessarily better (think of stuff like Boyzone/Take That/Spice Girls etc., a lot of **** was out there). It's more a case that the music you listen to in your teens is more 'defining' than at any other moment in your life. Most teenagers are trying to create some sort of identity for themselves in a way you don't have to when you're older. Most people find that by the time they hit their early to mid twenties they stop looking for 'new bands' etc. quite as much as they used to and stick with what they know.

I was an 80's teen and I still love it but the 90's had some amazing stuff too, Oasis would really stick out in my mind moreso than the boy bands. David Grey too, that White Ladder album, I played the absolute life out of that and it's still one of my favourites.

I'd say just buy three or four of the "Now That's What I Call Music" CD's from the 90's and you'd have them all :D

    Oh the memories.

I usually think of myself as an 80's girl - but then again I lived in London for 11 years - during the 90's so that whole Brit Pop scene was fantastic and I saw Oasis/Blur/The Verve/Cast/Ocean Colour Scene/Tori Amos in concert throughout that time. Ahhh the memories. But reading through that Top 100 - wow - I feel like dancing now just thinking about most of those songs.

And compilation albums are the best - I have a few from the 80's and 90's and they cover I'd say most of the songs listed in that Top 100.

But just thinking of KLF - and Massive Attack's "Unfinished Symphony" - classic. And Radioheads "Street Spirit" ............... infact I think the sun was always shining in the 90's too.:)

now here is a powerful song from 1993-a band at the very peak of their powers directed by Anton Corbijn -this is when a video and song match up. Dark to say the least

I forgot about that Depeche Mode song, loved it - have the album - will go home and play it tonight.

Of course I adored Nirvana/Pearl Jam/Stone Temple Pilots/Soundgarden and Grunge Music. Had a ticket to see Nirvana play at the Barrowlands in Glasgow - but poor old Kurt put a stop to that by ending his life, I cried at the time, as it was such a waste of a talented performer and because I never got to see him on stage. Did see Pearl Jam at The Borderline, London, a small venue - so imagine being at that conert and I saw the Stone Temple Pilots. (Got to relive that experience when STPs played The Olympia in 2010). Just remembered saw REM at The Borderline too, at the time when "Losing My Religion" was high in the charts - now that was some night.

This thread has made me realise I'll have to go through my CD collection and start playing the Best of 90's, great times!
