Watching it on RTÉ 1 now, I'm not surprised the athletes wanted nothing to do with it.

About 200 people in Dawson Street to hear Des Cahill talking ****e, Ronnie Delaney talking about himself and politicians jumping on the bandwagon.

    Its a cringe fest.

There isn't a sinner at it. They were expecting 20,000 at this! A load of rubbish!! I'd say them athletes are embarrassed to be on that stage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,808 ✭✭✭Caveman1

its very embarrasing, it looks like something from the 1950's. all its short of is mc quid coming out to 'bless' the crowd.
the politicians/officials couldnt give a toss about the olympics or sport. they are standing there completely out of their depth and look like they cant wait to get back to the warmth of indoors

    Clown.

Jesus, I'm usually one to pick the positives but who thought putting des cahill on a stage on a wet Wednesday afternoon asking some poor girl about her college course would draw a crowd

The people with the Golf Umbrellas blocking the view of the kids behind them are pure ignorant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 corkery

It embarassing, I feel sorry for all athletes there! It's like watching a car crash in slow motion

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,004 ✭✭✭Cassidy28

Ice Ice baby it's fcuking sh1t.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 77 ✭✭Nolls14

No one does celebrations in mediocrity quite like the Irish. The last place those athletes want to be is there.

Des Cahill can **** off as well.

Very true - They should have had the decency to provide ear plugs for the kids as well !

The real homecoming was in Bray on Monday evening. And it was Rio-like weather :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,004 ✭✭✭Cassidy28

It's a sh1t crowd and an joke, the athletes look totally out of their depth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,775 ✭✭✭✭kfallon

The proper homecomings were on Monday, this is just the photo opportunity for the politicians so they can try get some sort of popularity with people by associating themselves with the athletes.

That introduction of Darren Sutherland's father was just awful........

I am hiding behind the chair here listening to this......:(

and Skid, stop bragging about your Rio Carnival!.......:)

I'm cringing for Des Cahill.

All we need now is an appearance from Marty Morrissey. :(

    Orange pilled.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 77 ✭✭Nolls14

When are they breaking out the Sandwiches? You'd probably have a good chance of winning the raffle in that crowd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,004 ✭✭✭Cassidy28

The athletes have their hands in their pockets it says it all really:rolleyes:

What clever gobshíte decided it would be a good idea stage an event like this half way up a side street ?

Could they not hire somewhere like the Point for a few hours where the crowds wouldn't get wet and thus attract more people ?

There has never been a time in my life when I have more wanted to fúck something at the television in despair. In the brief 30 seconds I glanced upon this I almost cringed myself into the chair. The poor, poor athletes.

'Go on, show the medal down the street one more time, this is your bronze medal people, this is what you all came here to see.'

My TV licence fee contributes to this man's salary. Fúck my life.

Yeah, but I still have the sunburn to prove it :(:D

You are right, Des Cahill couldn't remember Tony Sutherland's name, it was cringeworthy.

Des Cahill to Conlon :"Your hair is lovely".

I had to laugh at RTE's website. First thing this morning it started with "20,000 people expected.....". By about 11:30 it had changed to "hundreds are expected...."

    Awful luck with weather though

I think Charlie is competing in the Tour of Spain at the moment. He's always wanted to add that title to his Tour de France win in 1987.

Des must have an awful thirst on him. He seems more interested in asking the athletes where is the action happening tonight rather than anything Olympic related! Mind you watching this is driving me to drink too.
