Where does the land lie for me? can anybody help?

I completed a level 5 FETAC course in May of this year. got my results mid July and recieved a good result.

I filled out my CAO very early this year, in its opening few weeks.

No offers in round A or in round Zero.

My first 3 choices were courses in Waterford I.T.

Should i have recieved an offer already? should i not? It was my belief that FETAC level 5 applicants recieved their offers with the leaving cert offers next week, but having read the Irish Times CAO guide this morning it says that FETAC level 5 applicants should have gotten their offers in round Zero.

I feel i have gotten a good margin more of points than i need and to be honest i'm worried.

I've phoned the CAO and they wont say if i should or shouldn't have had an offer yet.
I've phoned W.I.T. who wont say if i should or shouldn't have had an offer yet.

    Worried :(

i dont want to know if i have gotten a placement or not even, i just would like to know should i have recieved an offer already or am i still waiting?

it depends on the courses. Just because you got good grades does not automatically guarantee you a place. Many many courses only hold on average 2-4 places for fetac holders so you may not have qualified im afraid. On the other hand you may get offered a course when the cao offers come out. I know I done a fetac in business and got my offers with the leaving certs for accounting so be patient and good luck.

If you applied for one of the limited places reserved for FETAC students in a 3rd level institute and were successful, you should have got an offer in Round 0.

If you applied for a course in an IT which was not linked to your FETAC course, you are using your modules as points and offers will be out with the LCs next week.

It's hard to help if you don't specify what course you have completed and the type of course you are applying for.

apologies, but thank you, thats the first bit of straightforward information i've been given.

I completed a Level 5 in 2D AutoCAD in Bray Institute of Further Education and applied to do Level 7 Architectural Technology in W.I.T. (code : WD094) as my first choice.

I'm trying not to sound stupid, but if i applied for a linked/ reserved place, then that is something i would be aware of is it not? all i have done is fill in my CAO app. at the beginning of this year and that is all. I always just asumed that i was competing with leaving certs.

It's just been thrown into doubt after reading that article. sorry if those are just the most stupid questions you've ever seen.

    Thanks so much :)

You'd think, wouldn't you. That's one of the flaws of the system, it's not clear when you're filling out the CAO. You just tick FETAC and the CAO figure out which system you're applying under.

Entry for FETAC students isn't specified in the WIT prospectus, but I'm assuming given the type of course it is and the type of course you've done, that you've applied under the Higher Education Links Scheme and that there are limited places. It doesn't sound good for you, as the offers for these would have come out in Round 0. I think your best bet is to contact the college. There is a slight chance that a FETAC student may not take up his/her place or that the places may not be all filled.

Thanks again, twice i've rang W.I.T. and i'm not really getting much satisfaction tbh. i've basically said

"i was hoping/ expecting to get an offer in round 0, should that have been the case when applying with my FETAC level 5".
The first time they said "maybe, but hold out for round 1",
the second time they said "its unlikely enough to have gotten an offer in 0 and to see what happens in round 1"

i also asked were the places for FETAC students limited in that course and was told "they didn't think so"

as for trying to ring the CAO for clarification  i wont even go there.

to be honest i find the whole system a bit of a dose, its so hard to get any information, i feel like im just sitting here blind and that if i dont get an offer on monday coming which now seems like a real option that a level 5 FETAC is the end of my college career (due to my bad meaving cert) and that saddens me greatly. that coupled with the fact that i put down 7 level 7 courses on my CAO in 3 different I.T's and i'm not getting a single offer :(

Phoned W.I.T. a third time and got someone helpful, they said that from the Level 5 that i had done i was never intended to get an offer in Round 0 and that i am most definitely in the running to get an offer in Round 1 :)

    PHEW!
