    What is the best high spin golf ball for the price? I'm looking for balls close to the pro v1 but that are alot cheaper.

    For value for money you could try the Srixon AD333.

    You pick them up for €20 per dozen.

    Of course, not as good as other premium balls - but I find them good enough.

    @BraveDonut
    Would the ad333's check up on the green from short chip shots?

    When it comes to cheap n cheerful, you can't go wrong with with the Nike 'soft' green ball. (the box being green, not the ball itself)... You can often pick em up for €15 a dozen (usually in a two boxes for €30 deal as they had in Ha'penny Golf recently) and they perform very well for such a cheap ball in my opinion.

    @Ryan29

    Yes - that is my experience. Not as good as say a Pro v1 of course - but less than half the price. I also find them a bit more durable than the Titleist.

    Another option is a Taylormade Burner LDP (cheaper than the Pentas)

    McGuirks are selling the bridgestone tour b330s balls for €29.95 and they are hard to beat at that price.

    Pro V practice balls.
    About 25 a dozen and exactly the same as a normal pro v bar a print defect.

    @ForeRight
    Where can you buy them?

    Most golf shops I'd imagine.

    Halpenny definately have them. They are in a white box

    Is that the only difference? Will keep a lookout for them

    Yep. The only difference is a print cosmetic defect.
    They have practice printed on them

    The Bridgestone e5 would be good as it has a high spin cover

    How much are they?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,317 ✭✭✭big_drive

    I'd say around the €22 mark for a dozen. Two piece ball I think but it's a urethane cover so perfect for spin. Have heard impressive stuff about them

    Pretty sure American Golf also have the Bridgestone B330 on sale at the moment.

    Failing that, head down to your local P&P club and pick up a bunch of Commandos :D

    An interesting story on the ProV practise, was playing interclub against a complete ass who would not allow me to play the ProV practice, said it was non conforming. Made no difference as I prefer my Bridgestone ball. Decided to ask Titliest what the story was and this was their reply, it's also up on the FAQ aswell. Looks like he was wrong but not too far off
    Thank you for your inquiry regarding the differences between Titleist Pro V1 Practice and Pro V1 X-Out golf balls.

    The Acushnet Company invests significant time and effort to ensure that our products are Best-in-Class in terms of quality, performance and consistency. As such, in the rare event one of our products fails to meet USGA requirements for size, weight, velocity or any other conformance criteria we destroy rather than market such products.

    As such, only products that are of a minimal defect are available for purchase. These products are available in two offerings:

    1. Pro V1 Practice golf balls are conforming products that differ only due to a cosmetic blemish such as paint, ink or registration of stamping. Pro V1 Practice golf balls do not have any construction or performance deficiencies.

    2. Pro V1 X-Out golf balls are also conforming products. However, they usually have a cosmetic blemish and/or occasionally have a minor physical defect that should not significantly affect its performance. More often than not, the physical condition causing the ball to be stamped as an X-Out is so minute that it is not recognizable by the player.

    Both products may be used in the casual round of golf including those with scores posted for handicaps, and most competitions, with the possible exception of high level competitions invoking the Local Rule requiring balls to be on the List of Conforming Golf Balls. Please refer to the USGA Official Rules on the subject listed below for your reference:

    Q: May I use a ball stamped with "Practice" or "X-Out" to play a round of golf?

    A: Our present policy provides that if the List of Conforming Golf Balls or the One Ball Condition is in effect, a practice or logo ball may be used provided the other markings on the ball (i.e., pole and seam) correspond exactly to a ball listing on the current List of Conforming Golf Balls. Balls labeled with ''PRACTICE'' or a circled ''P'', are essentially treated as a logo ball (such as a Mickey Mouse emblem). A player's name stamped on the ball is also acceptable. However, the original ball markings (i.e., pole and seam markings) must be readable in order for a Rules Official to determine whether that ball is on the List of Conforming Golf Balls. X-Out balls are not permitted to be used in any competition in which the List of Conforming Golf Balls or the One Ball Condition is in effect. However, if neither of these Conditions are in effect, X-Out balls may be used because all balls are presumed to conform unless they have been tested and found not to conform or are obviously non-conforming (e.g., too small or too heavy). (See Decisions 5-1/4 and US/5-1/101).

    As a result of the potential for an X-Out to be non-conforming if tested, we do not recommend using this model during tournament play.

    We appreciate you allowing us to clarify this matter and wish you much success with your game. Thank you for making Titleist an integral part of your game, as well as the #1 ball in golf.

    Agree, can't go wrong with the AD333.

    High handicappers who play with pro v's will probably get far too much spin from their tee shots, also how many people, 8 handicap and above, get that much spin from approach shots anyway... In truth not that much.

    I want balls that can you can check the ball with a low trajectory from greenside chips. Pentas, Pro V1s, Z Stars, B330s etc do that for me but they are all €40+!

    The B330s are definitely on sale at the mo in American Golf as stated above in the thread, around the €25 mark

    Think the Z-stars are around the €60 for 2 boxes

    Ya the zstars are €60 for 2 dozen. Very good offer

    Apologies if this is hijacking the thread a bit but for those of us who do slice tee shots, can anyone recommend low spin golf balls which might help us ??

    I think correcting the cause of the slice before worrying about low spin balls would be the best route to take. No matter what ball you use it will slice if your swing is a little off.

    Charlie is right when he says your swing flaw will still create a slice however you should try these: http://www.bridgestonegolf.com/product/balls/e6

    I moved back to AD333 , away from Prov1's recently.

    I'm getting them at €15 a dozen and they are a ball I've used for years and am comfy with.

    Much mroe durable then PROV's. I used to get the top grade refurbs but the shells would chip and crack so quickly.
