    Hellon All,

Have received a letter from Social Protection being invited to apply for a job on a TUS Programme. There is very little information or feedback from participants who have been on this 12 month programme working for charities. Can anyone enlighten me as to if it is any good, or as some say it's just another CE Scheme but different name.

Any help, advice from anyone that knows anything about it would be most helpful.

I did the Tus scheme back in 2011-2012. Like yourself - got the letter and ticked yes. I think a couple of weeks later, I got called for an interview, the day of the interview just before I went in I filled out a form just highlighting my skills and interests.

Two people conducted the interview and they looked through the form I filled out to see if I might be a match for something. I have put down web design/ web development and it just so happened there was a local charity group that needed a website. I'm calling it an interview but to be honest it was quite laidback and informal. If you do get called for this interview use it as an opportunity to be completely honest - if theres any sort of area or job that doesn't sound like its at all for you, just be honest and tell them. I did feel at this stage they were just trying to see if I would be a match for anything.

A week or so later I got called to meet a Tus supervisor and the chairman of the charity that needed a website. I met the supervisor first, who just detailed what was going to happen - i would meet the chairman and see if the job spec was for me. After I met with the chairman, I talked again to the supervisor who asked me if i was happy with everything. It sounded like something that interested me so i went for it.

Overall the scheme isnt perfect, but it was a good opportunity for me to do something I enjoyed, meet new people and get out of the house. I had lost quite a bit of confidence with being unemployed and this did really help me get it back - I even went back to college to do a hdip after i finished up.

Anyway sorry for the long reply, that was my experience with Tus.
