This is the bit I'm dreading, more than my own dress grr.

Is there anyone out there that can recommend a shop, anywhere, dublin city centre would be good but I will travel anywhere

My mum is a young 62, and size 14/16. I think she'd spend up to 600 euro!!

Why are you dressing your mother? Have you not enough to be worrying about with yourself and your bridesmaids?!

The best places Mum and I came across were below.
City centre: http://www.theturret.ie/contact-us on the little pedestrian street opposite the back entrance to the Powerscourt shopping centre

    Venture further afield for:

    Evita, Main St, Naas
    Vanity Fair, Main St Newbridge.

    debenhams or bt?

you can get some lovely outfits on offer there!

.... and actually Arnotts or Pamela Scott also. Sorry was really only thinking of boutique-y places first off. My Mum was a little concerned if she went for Arnotts, BT, Debenhams that there might be a bigger chance of someone else showing up in the same outfit.

Is online an option? My mum has always gotten her mother of the bride, or mother of the groom outfits online. She likes Nordstrom in particular, as they don't have a shop in Ireland so she figures less people here are likely to have the same outfit. Tadashi and Tahari ranges. She sends them back if they don't fit.

Don't know your mums colouring or preferences, but an example of a knee-length dress with a jacket is here:

OP, I'd say she'd find something far nicer in Arnotts, BT or Debenhams than the traditional Mother-of-the-Bride shops coz the outfits in MOB shops are hideous, ugh satiny/tafetta jacket and skirt bright colour combo ugh, not a good look at all. Your mom is better off buying a lovely dress from BT, etc and I'm sure if her budget is €600 she won't have guests wearing the same thing as her.

I'd also suggest that when shopping tell the shop assistant that you've got a special occasion coming up (don't say it's for a wedding) as otherwise they'll pull out all the traditional MOB crap.

with absolute all due respect tinkerbell, we don't know this lady's taste, or what might or might not be a good look on her so i'm not sure why the harsh post

op i recently watched my oh's auntie fret and worry over her outfit for her son's wedding and she'd trapsed around all the usual places in dublin like bt's and debhenhams but couldn't find anything she liked. online wasn't an option as delivery would have taken too long but the outfit she found in the end [in a tiny boutique in swinford here in mayo of all places] was very like the one linked to above, just with the skirt a bit longer. sometimes the smaller boutiques will have more unusual stuff if she's worried about someone turning up in the same thing.

You're less likely to get someone else wearing it if it's in a boutique.

Places my mam tried on nice things:

    The Turret (already mentioned above)
The Village Shop Raheny (they have a website but seems to be down at the mo)
    http://www.morelandbridalwear.com/ Northern Cross
The Clothes Peg in Sutton (http://www.clothespeg.ie/)

I recently helped my mom buy a dress for a "do" and actually enjoyed the experience! She appreciated the honest advice and my dad just wouldn't have the same input!

OP, my mom is about the same age and size as yours and we got her a dress in Coast, although I appreciate many wedding guests buy from there. I'd try some smaller boutiques and if you are asked by the assistants for help say you are looking for something for a dinner dance :) They often have set ideas for MOB outfits, I found!

We're planning on going to Debenhams and Arnotts and using the personal shopper service. We've used them before for other occasions and have found them good.
Both my mother and the mother of the groom are in their 40s and feel they are too young for the usual 'Mother of the Bride' outfits.

We have booked into debenhams I like the look of the turret, what sort of prices are we talking about for outfits?

300/400 up to 1000 depending on designer for a dress and jacket (well either bolero, jacket or knee length). You might get lucky and get it reduced. I think you will see alot for her budget of 600.

My mam who's 51 and my mother in law who is 69 both bought their outfits for my wedding in Michael H. Their outfits could not have been more different but both looked very elegant on the day. There's a Michael H in Arnotts and there's a Michael H shop in the Pavillions in Swords and Nutgrove Shopping Centre.

BTs have some nice stuff but my mam found the sales staff a bit snooty - they suggested stuff to my mam that was all of a certain price range and when she picked something different (that cost a bit more) they told her it might not be suitable for her (even though it was the same "type" of outfit as one they had picked)
Good luck with your search :)
