Anxiety and no focus

Lately I've been having really bad anxiety and it's starting to really affect my life. I have developed fears and don't like being out of my comfort zone. Sometimes I feel like I'm losing my mind and my mind races. Sometimes I just want to sleep and not do anything.

I know some of the contributing factors. I drink too much alcohol, eat badly and don't exercise. I am starting to change this aspect of my life so hopefully that will help. The problem is that I have taken on a business and it's a big responsibility. I'm not sure if I'm up to the task mentally. I know I can do the job but I fear that I may have a breakdown of some kind.

Maybe I just want to type this, maybe I want help, I'm not sure. I have taken some medication every now and then to help but I don't want to get hooked on anti-depressants or need them to do daily tasks.

Look at the thread on counselling which is currently on this page. You might find that counselling might be enough to focus your mind.

You have been given a great opportunity, go for it and you may well find the drinking etc becomes so second place that it disappears as an issue. Having someone else to verbalise your ambitions and doubts to could help you focus.

You sound as though you are half way there, you have identified the issues, you just need a bit of support to see the project through :) Good luck!

It sounds to me like some of the help you need is outside the scope of this forum. Have you seen a doctor?

I understand your concern about anti-depressants, but life involves balances: you don't want to become hooked on depression either. You can tell your doctor that you would prefer a non-drug therapy. A suitable counsellor might be what you need.

And yes, you have put your finger on some things you can improve. It's good life policy to control your alcohol intake, to have a balanced diet, and to take some exercise. You probably need a kick-start.

Thanks. I have an amazing girlfriend who's very supportive and is more than willing to help me out with the business. She has gone through similar anxiety in the past. I'll have a look at the counselling thread and see if i can get something from it
