Got a lenovo laptop at christmas as a gift, never let it drop our anything, two months ago it just stopped working (screen won't start) so we sent out off to be repaired.

They inform us that it was a technical fault repair it and send it back, have the thing two hours exact same issue again send it back to be repaired only this time they claim that someone either put the wrong charger in it our brute forced one in, neither of which happened, but of course voids the warranty, so now they want 200 euro to fix the problem they never fixed or 44 e to send it back.

    what a load of crap!

    /rant.

Happy days - tell the shop you want it back fixed free of charge within the next 10 working days. Include in your letter that you have never used the incorrect charger. (Assuming you haven't!) Do NOT include any other info like 'I've never let it drop' but you can say you have treated it with the utmost care or some such. Don't deal with the manufacturer you've no contract with them - your rights are with the shop.

If they don't have it back to you in ten working days get your father to file a small claims court claim.

Be warned. They can counter sue so make sure you haven't done anything you shouldn't have!

Did they say what the technical fault was? Was it the lcd inverter or charger power jack? The lenovo laptops have common issue with the power jacks because the wires are not hard wired to the jack and they move out of place. Simple fix of just soldering the wires to jack but most repair places just push the wires back in to touch the jacks connecters but then they fall out again just as easy. If there not going to repair the item, demand a full refund or replacement, it's your choice and you statutory right.

    .

What?? there's no way in hell that a problem with a card reader would cause a laptop not charge or power on. That's retarded. Get in touch with your local citizens information center about this and they will take on this case for free. Don't let them get away with it.

To be honest if you've a record of all of this they're likely to get fairly short shrift in the SmCC - that said you may not have a contract with Lenovo.
