The Nokia 7230 is still there but the LG Optimus Black is not

Northside shopping centre had one 7230 left on Saturday,I picked one up there myself, seems to be gone in most if not all other Dublin stores. It is a damn good phone if you can find one at this price. It was a Meteor Upgrade.

It was displaying out of stock, but on selecting a price plan (bottom left), it allows you to complete the order..

Yep can be unlocked by rooting, fairly easily as well to be honest.

If your rooting it you can more than likely upgrade the software on it to Ice Cream Sandwich while your at it

Not sure rooting will allow network unlock, can't find any definitive evidence of this for the LG Optimus Black handset.

And AFAIW, ICS hasn't been officially released by LG for this handset, there are of course CM nightly builds which are built from AOSP/Kanged sources and may not be very stable.

Yeah I think I secured one myself at that price. Had it in my basket when it went out of stock but it still let me complete the transaction. Have to wait and see.

Its pretty much the same deal as the Ascend G300 on Vodafone. I think the G300 might get ICS sooner, and but the Optimus Black has a front camera which the G300 doesn't.

My last 2 mobiles were LG and I have to say - cool phones, but not reliable. Terrible batteries, poor handset quality, both broke weeks after warranty end. I am trying to repair my last one Optimus 7 but I afraid it's useless. I would be very happy if it will work correctly, at least 2 day on 1 charge - but it couldn't.

CM9 = CyanogenMod 9 = equivalent to Android ICS (4.0.x]

CyanogenMod is an independent open source project where Google Android open source code is used (as opposed to vendor specific device OS derived from Google Android codebase) to power the handsets facilitating increased flexibility among other things. CM firmwares are pretty good at core functionality, but may suffer from issues with propritory device drivers (e.g. camera, fm radio) where the vendors may not be required to release source code.

their not in store, well not in the ones close to me...hesitated on this (for youngfella) as have a LG optimus 2X and LG really don't care about updates for that flagship phone (still on gingerbread), check out their facebook page for everyone giving out, on the flip side good spec phone...Think im gona go with the ascend G300 because theirs more chance of an official ICS update...

Yes it is a bargain and worth the 99 it would have been 350 when it came out and they don't really drop the price of phones much normally. Ive picked one up for a friend for helping me out so its a nice surprise for him.

I have also read that in the third quarter of this year ICS will be available but I don't believe it.

Think it may just be the USB drivers, I used the following XDA resource to upgrade to Gingerbread and root it anyway -

The stock rom (Android Froyo 2.2) seemed a little smoother/quicker than Gingerbread, but not by much..

Ring up shop first, not all stores have them, you can get the nums of the stores form the website.

Mine came today so happy days, may not update it due to prev poster will wait until they update to ICS.
