Small Rural Garda Stations

Hi, have a quick question, was wondering if anyone could help me out?

In small rural towns of about 1,000 people, how many Guards would be stationed at a single station? Are we talking 2 or 3, or is that too few?

I'm aware that a lot have been shut down in recent years due to cutbacks, but before then how many would be typically stationed?

    Thanks a lot in advance

Ummm... Why do you want to know the strength numbers of guards in an area? Sounds a bit weird/susp, (pssst! That's the sort of question a criminal might ask).

I doubt you'll get an answer here - contact your local superintendents office in the next big town over for answers.

Sorry, maybe should have mentioned it's just research for a story I'm trying to write! At the moment I have 2 fictional guards stationed in a small town station and I just wanted to know if this is plausible/realistic.

If it's an inappropriate question here, fair enough, take it down and I apologise.

Give the press office a call, they should be able to give you an official answer.

I've absolutely no idea on any factual information regarding rural Garda stations, but I would imagine that in a very small town with very little crime, it's possible there'd only be two or three Gardaí stationed there, alright.

I believe in some rural Garda stations, the Garda car is never really left at the station (and is instead taken home by one of the officers) for ease of use.

I'd also imagine that stations that are lacking in manpower would be relatively close to other stations, so that in the event of a serious emergency or situation occurring that would require much larger numbers to deal with, there's always available units nearby.

That's just how I'd picture things working though. No idea about actual real life rural Garda stations.

It's proportional to the population. Crime figures have little to do with station strengths. The population of a town should reflect on the station strength, with no regard given for specialist units etc. So if there is 4m in the state, and there are 12000 gardai....... Thats about 1 Garda per 333 members of the public(even if the public are also gardai)
