Rolling Stone: The 30 Greatest 'EDM' albums of all time

Rolling Stone magazine getting a lot of stick for this top 30 'EDM'... not surprising of course but what's even more entertaining are comments posted from people saying that its an awful list because they've chosen the 'worst' Deadmau5 album or 'where is Tiesto' in such a way that suggests his exclusion invalidates the list.

Anyway, for those who haven't seen, enjoy... :pac:

That's one of the most bizarre lists I've ever seen.

From Kraftwerk to Madonna to Skrillex......

It's like everyone in the office got one pick :pac:

Ha yeah does look like that alright! Pretty feckin random stuff... to include DJ mixes and compilations in a 'greatest albums' list.

Loving the Deadmau5 write up though, "If Skrillex is Metallica, this guy is Bon Jovi". Jaysus.

Absence of Screamadelica invalidates the list IMO.

In terms of talent, Skrillex reminds me somewhat of the sh1te dance track the lads on Brass Eye claimed people heard for hours on end after taking Cake. There is being cheesey like say, Scooter, there is being bland rubbish like Deadmau5, and then there is Skrillex. He just has his own level of complete fcukwittery.

Who first coined that term 'Electronic Dance Music/EDM'?

I know it was probably some american but jesus it's horrible!

I'm not sure even Screamadelica or Leftism could save that list, there's some awful embarrassing sh1te on there.

Funnily enough, Our Mojo down the road did up a list of electronic albums as well. Very indie muso-centric but definitely a bit more respectable than the Rolling Stone one:

    2. The Tornadoes - Telstar (1962)
    3. BBC Radiophonic Workshop - Dr Who (1964)
    4. Silver Apples - Silver Apples (1968)
    5. The Bley-Peacock Synthesizer Show - Revenge(1968)
    6. Terry Riley - A Rainbow In Curved Air (1969)
    7. White Noise - An Electric Storm (1969)
    8. Neu! - Neu! (1972)
    9. Roxy Music - Roxy Music (1972)
    10. Stevie Wonder - Music Of My Mind (1972)

'Leftism', Underworld's 'dubnobasswithmyheadman', Orbital's 'In Sides' and the Chem's 'Surrender' should be on there every time.

True, but if you can't even get the standards right, well then there's no hope.

Why does everybody go on about NIN's the Downward Spiral so much? The Fragile was an infinitely better record!!

    Because they enjoyed it

But they didn't enjoy that as much

I just think it scored an extra few points for being controversial.
    Fair point though man.

Reminds me of Alan Partridge being asked his favourite Beatles' album: The Best of the Beatles. No dubnobass... or second toughest, the first 4 Orbital albums, LFO Frequencies, T-Power's Self Evident..., LTJ's Logical Progression, KLF White Room. You can tell the list was compiled by clueless Yanks who arrived on the bandwagon 20 years too late.
