A quote from a main dealer for a 07 Golf GTI.

    Rack end: €47
    Front wishbone bush: €134
    Front brake disks: €145
    Front brake pads: €76
    Rear bearing: €176
    Labour: €306
    Total: €884

They also quoted me €384 for four tyres (Mohawk) and €90 for alignment.

It's a printed quote. Would it be worth my while showing it to a few local mechanics?

If you fit mohawk to a GTI then you will only have mohassle and might end up needing a mopanelbeater and you will lose your mo claims bonus.

Put some proper tyres on that bad boy! :D

All of those parts and Labour prices would be noticeably cheaper from a reputable independent garage still using OEM parts.

You also wouldn't put economy tyres on GTI and I would worry about a main dealer(or any garage) that would be happy quote for those unless specifically asked to by the customer.

Hi OP nice car but would defo look into a bit of pricing around and go to a tyre shop/dealer whereabouts are you?

I have a VRs and just put 2 uniroyal tyres on the front never saw a design like them they have different size thread all around with small gaps and then large gaps ment to be one of the best rain tyre on the road.

Do you know a mechanic or even a garage not a main dealer because the killer with the dealers is the hours labour they charge and high prices.

1 Thing about tyres is that they are the only contact and thing keeping you on the road so its well worth spending that bit extra on a great set.
Check the temperature rating and that on them and make sure as high as possible they dont have to be Dunlop or bridgestone or that

I agree with the posters above. If it was my car I would stay away from the main dealer thereby saving a few quid on the brakes, bearing and labour and put the money saved towards better tyres.

Yeah, I googled the tyres, won't bother. Local tyre centre will do a 4 wheel alignment for €40.

Thought the labour cost was a bit mental too.

For that price, make sure they are doing the full alignment including camber adjustment.

Labour is pretty low considering it is a main dealer. We would charge about €225 labour for the same work so €300 is not too crazy. You will see big savings on the parts if you go the independent route as well though.

Just to give you an idea of an average independent quote I would price the job as follows:

    Rack end aftermarket €25
    Wishbone bushes x4 genuine €40
    Front discs aftermarket €120
    Front pads aftermarket €50
    Rear bearing aftermarket €100

    Labour €225

    Total €560 + VAT = €635

I am guessing front the price of the Mohawk tyres that your GTI has 17 inch wheels rather than 18s. In which case 4 Michelin tyres would be €500 inc VAT fitted and balanced.

    Alignment included in the above.

Goodyear F1 Asymetric 2's if you can afford them, saving for some atm as my car came with horrible Accelera's

Tyres are 18s. Love the uniroyals myself too but the two times I had them on the sidewalls went.
