Well into that time of year again,I have around half our lambs gone in Drumshanbo and Dowra...trade overall has slightly worsened in my opinion week by week over last 5 weeks, how do others think trade is around the country?, I reckon good qual suffolk cross male lambs back 7 to 10 euro on last year, females back 10 to 20.Usual story...rubbishy lambs still making 50 to 60 euro while a great store struggles to make 80.

Is 80 not high for a store, given finished lambs are around 100 -105 euro?

Sold 10 x 45kg factory lambs in Carrigallen last week for Eur115 each.

Good stores were making Eur80 as you say. You wouldn't want to have to pay any more for them if you are only getting Eur115 for a finished lamb.

Jaysus, that's good money Reilg. I sent lambs away a while ago to the factory - they were paying 4.80/kg, for 21 kg = 100 euro.
115 for lambs this time of year is very good IMO...

80 for store lambs is too much I think.

Surprised at lack of discussion of any kind of sheep trade on boards. Was in Dowra yday....Lambs and hogget prices on the floor....good quality hoggets making up to 30 euro less than similiar sheep a fortnight ago.

Well, I was in Carrigallen last Monday night, and the run of the prices were approx €2per kilo, with nice ones making 3 to 5 along with it. This for 41 to 48 kilo lambs. A few heavier ones made 2 a kilo. Light stores back to €1.50 a kilo
Not as many men nor lambs out on the night as work seemed to have got around that a Dept inspector was attending. He was checking lots of eartags and some paperwork. Iver in Cavan

He seems to be there every week. He's sound enough if your tags and paperwork is in order. In fairness, if you are taking a chance of not having theings in order, then you're better off not selling in a mart.
