    This should work for you

With the doors closed put the key in the ignition. Hold down the trip odometer reset button. Turn the key to the on position. You will see the service indicator light (wrench). Press the minute adjustment button. Release the trip odometer reset button

If it doesn't work I think there's a wrench button beside these two if it's a newer passat.

What year is the Passat? Depending on what sort of servicing is set on your car(long life etc) then you may need diagnostic equipment to reset it.

Its a poor garage that nowadays cannot reset a service light.

I keep promising myself I'll invest in a copy of VCDS as I can see myself staying in the VAG stable for a while yet but given the expense of it for something I might use occasionally or tinker around the edges with I have problems justifying it for what is after all a cable (software itself is free I think?)

If any VAG owners here decide to setup a group buy (yes I know about VAGdrivers but the last one was ages ago) let me know though ;)

Iirc its: ign off, press and hold trip reset, switch on ign, and turn the clock adjuster to the right, then release the trip reset. I think thats it but you might have to release the trip after turning the ign on and then turn the clock set to the right.

I'd be interested in a group buy but would be the new year before I could afford to really. If something is happening around then I'm keen.

Sorry am in Limerick, I presume it won't do any harm to the car if I leave it there until the next service?

No, if you'd had the car serviced then it will have no effect.

Instructions for restting the service interval light on the B6 Passat are in the manual. It's not the easiest thing to find in there, but it's definately in there.

Reset's it to 15,000km interval rather than the long life service interval, but it's better than it constantly being on.

Also, pretty sure it's the same as in this post: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=64833740&postcount=15
