Congratulations to Katie Taylor and company on an historic gold medal win at the London olympics. This is the best thing to happen in Ireland in years the nation was on the edge of their seats during the final and what a match it turned out to be as far as im concerened she has done more for this country than the current group of donkeys thats supposed to be running it.When Katie and the rest of the boxing team returns to Ireland I really hope that we dont see one politician in the tv screen so Enda stay away and ask the rest of the donkeys to stay away the last thing the people of ireland want is a "donkey derby" at Dublin airport trying to get some publicity (take an extra weeks holiday you will be able to claim it back on expenses)

I disagree ... whatever you think of Enda & Co they are the democratically elected representatives of the Irish people and as such Enda should be at the airport to welcome our athletes on behalf of the nation. That doesn't mean that I necessarly agree with everything they are doing but as a democrat I accept the outcome of elections & always have, even when the results led me to seriously questioned the mental capacity of the Irish electorate. ;)

Absolutely. Our elected leader should most definitely be there to welcome the star of the games. Why shouldn't he be?

Agreed. If they were seeking some sort of credit, then I would be against it. However I haven't heard any govt politician do anything other than just congrtulate.

Katie and the athletes should ask him on camera for improved sports funding.

There are athletes who would be pleased that the Taoiseach/Minister for Sport would honour his/her achievements by his/her presence.

The Taoiseach does represent the people of this country - even those who do not support him politically.

Actually we have a president for that!!!!! No place for any of the politicians, for the very same reasons there was no place for auld charlie haughey hijacking the limelight when stephen roache won the tour de france. An argument could possibly be made for the minister for sport but I would even be too comfortable with this myself.

How on earth did this kid, Evans make the final? One of the most lacklustre performances I have ever seen. Adam Nolan would beat this Evans lad.

It kinda sounds like the IABA is trying to spoil it all by themselves.
