Full Irish breakfast before run?

Staying in hotel, Kilomarathon tomorrow. Breakfast options limited. Debating the merits of a full Irish in the morning. It would be 2 hours before run. Asking for trouble?

    I wouldn't.

Keep it simple: porridge/cereal, banana, coffee. A fry would be madness for 99% of stomachs, unless you do that regularly.

Wouldn't be best i'd say, surely cereal on offer in hotel.

Yep defo avoid, that stuff takes hours and hours to beak down. Before last Christmas went for a run early/mid afternoon, after a fried breakfast, not good.

Ummm they'll usually have other options like fruit, toast, cerial.

It is hard to walk by a full Irish. Last year before the athlone 3/4 we were all in the bar watching the Ireland game. All the golfers were tucking into massive breakfasts :-(

I've done it before pacing gigs and before training runs no bother. Have often had a rasher sambo before races but probably more than 2 hours before hand.

If you are racing it Yes. If not fire away.
If Racing maybe just toast and tea would be better. If you managed to eat it 3 hours beforehand you'd likely be fine.

It's a 16+ mile race. Go for the carbs. Porridge and a banana.

Wouldn't go to the bother of cooking a fried breakfast myself so whenever there is one on offer I have it. Have survived a few legs of the Cork marathon relays after a fry several times. I wouldn't advise it though unless you know you can cope with running on that food.

Thanks, maybe I will stick with just tea and toast, maybe a little egg or bacon, but not the full fry up. Don't see porridge on the menu, would have gone for it

Not gonna break any records in the run, training just starting again really. But don't want to be doubled over either.

Will avoid cereal though, when I've set out on a bowl of muesli I haven't felt great, suspect it was all the milk.

    Oh oh oh.

    DISASTER!

Avoided sausages and rashers, stuck with a couple of fried eggs and beans. I thought beans might be safe enough..I was wrong. All came up at 15km. Was seeing stars. But also was tired, had a blister, was thinking far too much about my diet, and feeling way too sorry for myself. Didn't want to drop out, so crawled/walked to the end, in a time about 5 mins slower than last year. So learned some great lessons

    1. Time to get back to serious training.

    2. No more going out all night 2 nights before a long run.

    3. Back to pasta for breakfast before a run. It's not pleasant, but it works for me.

Could have been worse. Woman is front of me shat herself at 11 miles in DCM last year.

If I eat before a race now my food of choice is scrambled eggs and rashers. 3 hours beforehand.

In general though, I don't eat beforehand. Strong coffee beforehand and get your nutrition started early in the race.
