Does anyone know what MPG would be expected out of a 2001 1.6 Focus and out of a 2005 1.9 Golf.

I have looked around online and the figures are all over the place with some claiming 29mpg for the focus and others saying 43mpg!!

There is no definite answer to this. Depends on the driving conditions, urban, motorway, mixed? Driving style? Etc so you won't find a definite answer.

Id say 30 mpg would be be a decent ball park for mostly urban with some extra urban motoring

MPG is all about how you drive in reality.

I get 43-45mpg in my Focus ST on my 13 mile trip to work and generally 24mpg on the way home giving it the beans :)

That being said i would say a 1.6 focus would get mid 30mpg as my auntie has one and she is always complaining about it's fuel economy.

You must push it to work to get that kind of mpg:p

Thanks and what would the golf be like in comparison to the focus a 1.9 mk 5 tdi

Golf would be miles ahead in terms of economy, you would be spending about half as much money on fuel same milage.

Unfair comparison tbh as a 1.6 TD 90bhp Focus would be just as good as a 1.9tdi on fuel if not slightly better

The inside of a golf is about as lively as a changing room in arnotts :pac:.

Focus 1.6 - from experience gives c.33mpg in urban driving, c.40mpg in quick cross country driving, and somewhat more if you drive relatively sedately.

Best average mpg in a Focus ST I ever recorded was c.28mpg.

The OP is comparing a 2001 1.6 litre petrol Focus against a 2005 1.9 diesel Golf. You need to compare either a petrol Focus against a petrol Golf or diesel Focus against a diesel Golf.

Otherwise it is like comparing an apple against an orange.

The reason for that is because I currently have an 01 focus and am planning on getting a golf.I want to know if there will be much of a difference in fuel economy.

Not the spec you're looking for but i have an 03 Focus, 1.4.

I have an App on my droid that watches my fuel and have been using it for the past 3 months.

Highest i've got is 44.56mpg, average over the 3 months is 41.22mpg, pretty happy with that.

You will spend just slightly over half on fuel what you currently do on the focus i reckon, between MPG and price difference.

However you will have smelly diesel hands faaaaaaaar more often :(
