Want to learn more about what being genderqueer is like

So I have an idea for a book which centres around a genderqueer character. Before I go on I want to say, this book may never be published, it may never be written for that matter. I hope to get something I write published some day but whether that will happen I do not know. I jsut felt I should make that clear since some peopld see the phrase 'writing a book' and think being published is a dead cert.

So anyway, as I said the POV character is genderqueer. This isn't something I decided to be a big public statement or something that I decide at all. It just happened. The book will not solely be about the character being genderqueer but it will be a bit part of it. I want to portray genderqueer people fairly and realistically which means I have to research. Having looked into it I've come to realise I didn't understand genderqueer as a label as much as I thought. There is a lot of information on the internet but I have no idea where to start.

I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me. Whether it's sharing your story, pointing me towards some helpful resources or telling me what you see the term genderqueer to mean.

Thanks for any help in advance. If you want to share something that you don't want to publish in the thread feel free to PM me. I'm not sure if there's many (or any) people who identify as queer around her but anyone with more knowledge on this topic than me is being helpful.

I came across this today. It may be of help or not.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Thanks for that. Really interesting and informative article that's given me a lot to think about in general, not just in relation to this project. Thanks so much.
