New Trek 1.2 vs Used Felt Z70

Hi guys, Looking for a bit of advise about getting my 1st road bike, found a 50cm used felt z70 & an unwanted new 47cm Trek 1.2 for about the same money. From brief reading on the web, the felt seems a better bike, has 105 opposed to sora etc but I'm only 5ft so maybe the felt would be too big. Any advise/opinion re the 2options as the felt is a couple hours drive away!

It would depend on how old and how used the felt is? I personally would go for the new bike even with it having a lower spec.

Thanks for the reply, I'm 26, well 27next month, would be reasonable fit from jogging but don't cycle yet.. It said rarely used & looked in good nick in the pics bit guess it'd be hard to tell

The only way you could really tell us to go and look at it and try it out for size. If you had someone who knew a bit about bikes to bring along it would help also. But the one thing you have to remember is if you buy a used bike you have no real comeback if something goes wrong the day after you buy it and the repair costs etc will all be down to you.

I'd go for the Felt everytime (assuming it's in relatively good nick and a decent fit). They're a great bike plus buying a Trek feels too much like I'm giving my money to Lance Armstrong...

Thanks for the help, think if the felt fits I'd go for that, especially after driving for hours!! I won't have a come back on either but buying new isn't really an option just now

I bought 2nd hand and am very pleased with the result, and would defo go for the felt if the fit was reasonable. Worth having a basic service done though, either yourself or local bike shop. Things like brake pads could be worn, tubes on their last legs, etc... You can also adjust the fit slightly by changing saddle position, stem flip, and spacers.

Also, once you've got the bike, you can then explore the glory that is upgrades ;)

If you're only 5ft then the Felt should be much too big for you. Especially with the relaxed geometry of the Z series.

Ah no really would it be huge for me? The ad said to suit 5ft to 5ft5 guess thats a big range! Its the smallest you can get that bike in, what about the little people huh!!

There are a few adjustments you can make even if you do find it's a little on the large size...

    flip the handlebar stem
    get the a shorter stem
get rid of any spacers on the steerer tube
    saddle position
    etc.

BTW - Overall height shouldn't be the only factor in determining frame size - legs, arms & shoulders not to mention flexibility and comfort all come into play.

So I sat on a couple bikes at the weekend & while Id probably be able to stretch to a 51cm it'd be a big stretch...

So now its between the Trek 1.2 47cm or Giant defy 3.5 47cm, any opinion as which would be better? Treks never been used, Giant is described as mint condition
