We have those handles on those doors, very happy with them.

Cheers runawaybishop, any chance of a photo please? The handles are lovely but I'm definitely putting a glass knob on the glazed shaker leading into the kitchen so I'm just exploring the option of putting knobs throughout...but there may be a really good reason I haven't seen many cases of shakers with knobs on :D:D:D:D perhaps they just don't look right together...just looking for other people's opinion on it. Thanks.

It depends on the style you choose in the rest of your house to be honest.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

Polished silver or chrome door handles on an oak shaker door works very well.:)

    Door handles for me.

Why dont you try and break from the norm and try and put something unique on your doors?
Your gonna touch these things everyday so why not inject a bit of character into them.
Scour Ebay for antique door knobs or door plates.
I know cost will be a factor but like I said before you will use these everyday

Hi Seannash, that's kinda what I'm thinking myself. I found these which I thought were worth considering http://www.outofthebluedesignstudio.com/Doorknobs-1.html until I found out they're $349 each + extras
As for vintage...I like vintage but the overall look for the house is (our version of) modern which I think would really clash with the vintage look, so I'm trying to find a quirky modern look hence straying away from handles if at all possible but it's not just my house you'll understand so I have to find something that sits well with my OH who is in favour of satin finish handles I've already mentioned.....but I shall certainly take your advice and check out ebay...I know it's time consuming but what part of building a house isn't!?!?!

    Many thanks,
    BB

Its very easy to incorporate vintage into a modern build, infact it works alot better when its just touches of vintage and not vintage everywhere like your visiting your granny.

But its all personal taste at the end of the day.I actually stumbled across this thread because I just bought some door knobs from ebay(vintage ones)and have been looking for more unique ones(want to have different door knobs/handles on all doors,we only have about 4 doors in the house)

I think this is what the concern is alright but in fairness we have 14 doors to fit out...

For completeness sake I said I'd post again. In the end we went for the door handles suggested in the first post - we haven't had our doors hung yet so no pictures to show or opinions to give on how pleased I am at the overall picture but my main reason for opting for the handles after all (even though I found some really lovely knobs) was I thought if I put a knob on our clear glazed door leading to the kitchen then my eye would be drawn to the knob and not the lovely space beyond so that was it! kitchen knob out meant all knobs out and I'm pleased with that decision. Case closed :D
