A WASHINGTON MUSICIAN who ordered a flat-screen TV from Amazon.com was shocked to receive a semi-automatic assault rifle instead.

...A box arrived from UPS on Tuesday evening, and it seemed too small to contain the TV. He says he initially thought it contained accessories.
But when he opened it, he found a Sig Sauer military-style rifle....

So if it was possible, if you thought you could get away with it - would you keep the weapon or return it?

Would you return a gun sent to you by mistake? 50 votes

    Yes - of course.

Depends on the gun. If its a manky old single barrel shotgun and the TV cost 1,000e then probably return it, but the one in the article i probably wouldnt return

I'd like to see them try to take it off me.

The only use I'd have for a gun would be to shoot it at the TV, but that would be impossible if I didn't have the TV.

You can see the bind I'm in.

If I was living in America. I would probably own one already, in fact several. So really it's the TV I needed. So yes I would return it. Although that in fact is not so easy as there are rules, even in America about sending rifles in the mail.

On the other hand if I didn't have a rifle already. I would keep it and head for the nearest TV shop where I would select whatever TV I like and the contents of the till.

On the other hand if this happened in Ireland. I would immediately lock and load because it would have been detected by Customs you can be sure the Armed Response unit is waiting outside to see what happens.

Out of my cold dead hands!

Without knowing the history of the gun, & with them having serial numbers etc, you'd wanna be insane to even touch it in America.

id swap it on adverts.ie for a TV :pac:

Hmmm a tv would be great

But a gun could be used to obtain many bigger and better tvs and possibly other things I like

Can't play FIFA on a gun.

Though you could play Call of Duty.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I think I'd report it myself to be honest - but then again if Fair City, Glenroe and other reality rubbish was back on my old TV screen, I might be tempted to test it first! :D

Keep the gun & use it to rob a TV shop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,389 ✭✭✭✭Saruman

It's the US, I could legally buy a gun so there is no reason to keep it. Where the hell is my TV?

I, for one, think you'd be mental to try send it back. Imagine if got caught trying to post a firearm

If it was an SG 550 or suchlike I don't think I'd be capable of returning it.

I'd get in touch with them and try and sort out returning it. I don't want to tangle with the ARU, thanks very much. :P

I'd definitely keep it! A Sig 550 would be worth a lot more than a €1000 and damn it's an assault type rifle. Hopefully I didn't brutalize the packaging and I'd seal it back up and keep it for six months to see if someone came looking for it.

First they came for the socialists...

Nah me neither. Not a chance I'd be able to send it back.

    Any bullets?

I'd keep it, but I'd only use it on zombies. I fear I'm under-prepared for the apocalypse. :(

It must mean that someone at the other end of the country will be trying to rob a bank with a TV, and threatening to turn on RTE if they don't hand over the money.

"Hi, is that Amazon customer service? I ordered a 39" TV and received an assault rifle instead. Could you please send me my 55" HD TV? I've always wanted a 72" 3D HD TV. I'd just like to repeat: I have an assault rifle. Thanking you."

I have no reason to wish to shoot anyone, nor could there be any reason to; of course I'd return it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

AH Answer: I'd keep it and rob Soundstore for a better TV than the one I ordered.

Real Answer: I can't play Xbox on a gun. Return it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,857 ✭✭✭✭Dave!

Weird question  Why would you keep it? You planning on robbing a bank?

I have no reason to have a gun. I'll have the TV thanks.

Return it of course... how would you even start connecting a gun to a Sky TV box?

Semi-auto and assault are mutually exclusive.

Certainly not in this case. When the firearms dealer received his TV, I'll wager they'll start checking the delivery records for UPS.

    Besides, I already have a SIG 556.

It's my go-to rifle for the zombie apocalypse, I think. Work of art, and a beautiful trigger.

No way, you'll be called up to active duty when the zombie apocalypse starts. So you'll be stuck with the M4.
    :p

I have to get to the armoury somehow.

    I lolled.

I just realised this guy was in the US. Non-story.

Wait a second, Amazon don't sell guns, they sell gun accessories and things that go pfffft instead of bang. But no real guns.

Sure it wasn't an airsoft gun?

    ?

I know new manufactured civilian weapons can't have a full auto setting dating back to the 80s... but they still have names like the AR-15...

AR does NOT stand for Assault Rifle, as is commonly believed. AR stands for the original company that manufactured it, ArmaLite. ArmaLite sold their rights to the AR-10 and AR-15 designs in 1959 to Colt.
