odd one here. its a fairly decent rig with a fresh install of windows7. it occasionally stutters down for a few minutes before returning to normal, but its become an absolute pain.

There are no overclocks and the bios is up to date.

can happen in game and/or on desktop, but more often than not, while on YouTube.

CPU has been tested with Intel burn test and does fine, temps are good too. furmark on GPU and no stuttering at all while under torture testing. again, temps are fine.

    any suggestions?

    specs are:
    i5 2400
    XFX 6870 (double dissipation edition)
    asrock p67 extreme4
    8gb g.skill ripjawX
    Amazon Super Flower 450W psu

    any/all help/comments appreciated.

I had this happen to me a few months back. It was my hard drive crapping out.

any way to test it? I don't think HD tune will bring up anything besides a bad sector, which I doubt it has.

    its a new Samsung F3 500gb.

i used to get something similar, what it was in my case was windows power management was turning the hd's off if they hadn't been accessed in X amount of time and the stutering was the hd spinning up again

once I told windows to never turn the hd's off, the stuttering stopped

In my case it was late and I couldn't find the answer so I went to bed. When I woke up the next morning my HD was making a terrible clicking nose and I knew then that was the problem. Replaced it with an SSD so, there's no looking back now.
