Just wondering if anyone knows how strict aer lingus is with there 15kg limit for bikes..i'm packing up two bikes in cardboard boxes and wanted to put some of the camping gear in as well..this would bring the weight up to around 20kg.
    Thanks

In my experience they are not strict - I travel fairly regularly with road and mountain bikes (always over 15kgs!) and have had no problems so far! Having said that I imagine that sooner or later this will change ..........

There not strict at Dublin Airport, but it depends on where you are flying to.

I flew to Lyon with Aer Lingus and they weighed the Bike box on the return flight to Dublin. The Box weighed 16Kg, but they didn't charge me.

dublin airport never a problem. However oversize baggage conveyor/scanner in new terminal does have marker on side indicating max lenght of bike box ie tandem or if you do as i did joined 2 bike boxes together and put road and hybrid inside plus kitchen sink about 35 kgs. but as usual with AL no probs. however would not recommend a repeat.

Slighlty different to a bike but i Would travel with golf clubs quite often and always availed of the opportunity to stick extra gear into the travel case, never a problem up until a couple of months ago and since then checked every time.

Seem to be checking sports gear a bit more often.

I was never checked... up until a month ago and that was with Ryanair.

Flew with AL and Ryanair in the past without issues. Going out from Dublin you should be fine, coming home depends on the airport. I was 28kg out and back a couple of weeks back.. Ryanair have a sensible limit of 30kg.

We've found them very strict. Indeed, several hundred euros of strict.

Another thing to bear in mind - Booking in extra luggage does not give you extra weight allowance, for example, your 2 extra suitcases have to add up to the same weight as bringing one. Which is stupid. And expensive.
