When you replace the spare wheel under the 01 fiesta zetec there is a nut inside the boot that must be turned to tighten the wheel in place. There are two holes one at each side of nut. What should be put in there. The one i was doing for someone had whatever it is broken. What do I put there and is it really necessary?

the plate surrounding the nut was rivetted to the body originally and has come adrift. I don't think it will matter once it is done up
