They may have there benefits but a well looked after gun dog should have no problem dealing with the elements. If your dog is fed correctly, fit, his shots are up to date, regularly wormed and his housing is dry and draught free he will deal with anything.

Just another thing for your dog to get caught on

They can be handy in certain instances. We have a dog that loves to run in the family, very fast, and often puts up deer.

She's built for speed so she's literally skin and bones, despite eating like a horse.

When she runs through rough cover she often gets cuts that require stitches from fallen trees.

Those neoprene jackets are handy for protection.

they have there uses in particular flighting ducks and geese where the dog will be sitting next to you not moving after a retrieve. They were reviewed on a UK site I cant remember which one and got a thumbs up. If they fit properly snagging shouldnt be an issue. I kinda like the blaze camo style myself.

yeh snagging would be my biggest concern i suppose it would as stated,be handy out on the lake or on the coast whilst flighting duck and it was sporting gun that done a review on them awhile back i think ,gave them the thumbs up,ah il try it when hiting the lakes and see.

I'd imagine the dog would be over heating inside it if you were using it for rough shooting since the dog is always active and moving.

As cavan shooter said, it might be handy if the dog is in and out of the water and just sitting beside you wet it might stop him from getting cold

Sup bud seen the review myself, Id say they be good on lakes, alot of Americans use them and Chris Green Always has one on his dogs in his Wildfowling Dvds, not alot to get snagged on in the big lakes decoying divers;)

Use one on my lab when winter wildfowling, why not cant see the point of letting him sit their shivering afternsending him in freezing water to retrieve my dinner, also you can grab it to pull him into the boat if you need to. No need for it in rough shooting but it would protect them from chest puncture injuries.

Where can you get them here to save me having to go online for it? I'd be interested in blaze orange to help me see him!
