Recommend that you wait until you get to the States, and then shop major electronics department stores for over stocked and sale laptops.

yeah, Id wait till you get over to pick a decent one up - but if you need it before you go, check adverts or donedeal - plenty on there, pick up a used dual core, 2gig machine for 120-150 ( dont forget an adapter before you go :)

BlueDragon - you really are better waiting until you land. Will you have internet access on arrival to use Google Maps? You'll probably be getting taxis etc when you arrive and most cities are 'planned' cities and very easy to find your way around for 24 hrs.

You can get a decent spec Acer lappy for under $400 (€325)

If you really feel that you can't wait, then this might be an option:

    - look at the 3rd option down

I've used Dabs before and found them good (I have no connection to Dabs)

    Happy travels.

With irish laptop, you,, ll need a power adaptor in the usa as they use different voltage .
    BUY a pentium 4 laptop ,1.5ghz on adverts ie ,100 euro .
IT,LL do for a few weeks use.Make sure it has wifi,
you can buy a smartphone ,60 euro, in 3 shop, has gmail, browser, app store etc ,wifi ,use that, then buy a laptop after a few days in the usa.
buy the usa power adaptor before you leave ireland.
theres always sales in walmart ,bestbuy, , target ,usa ,or look on boards usa forum.

Power supplies operate on any voltage from 100 to 240 volt. Laptops are, after all, designed for traveling.

Riclad, 10/10 for formatting and advice, every time.

Wait till you get there, first thing you do is get on airport wifi with your phone, find a best buy and go. Boom, new laptop way cheaper than here.
