So I took the opportunity in between the rain showers today to get out into the garden and get to know the super macro mode on my camera. I was looking for abstract yet recognizable photographs. So here's a few samples of what I went for and I'd like some C&C. Be harsh please ;) And if anybody has any advice please do share.

I know, there's no real theme to this lot but oh well :P

    Hi,

I wouldn't call them abstract. the first one at a push.
In general the problem I find is they don't hold my attention/nothing to keep me beyond glancing at them.
    1. None of it appears to be sharp & it's not an intersting subject.

    2. Maybe you cropped a lot but there's a lot of noise. Noise aside I'd crop more from the end of the stem and just above the leaf/petal at the bottom. This would make it more abstracty & if you got the detail it'd be nice.

    3. I like the idea- (for me anyway) weeds/overgrowth and man made buildings in the background. Maybe post-aocalyptic world? For this I'd make the background a bit sharper.

    4. I presume that's rust but if linked to above could think it's blood..
Problem for me is that the item doesn't interest me. The bit that's in focus doesn't' have any detail that captures my eye.

    5. As above. if this was a lot closer up the detail couldb e interesting. But as it is it's a snapshot of a small weed/growth thingy.

I will say though that macro isn't easy (I'm still a total beginner, haven't put in the effort to use tripod as much as I shoud) and it can be hard to think of things to photograph (besides floral) sometimes)

    Cheers,
    Pa.

Thanks for the great reply! Gave me a good bit to think about and work on. Yeah, macro can be hard enough to find interesting subjects once you move away from the usual flowers :P Maybe when I get a DSLR I might be able to control focus properly. Thanks again

The third one is the only one that stands out as visually appealing to me. The rest are just pictures of things.

The blur and graining seems kind of odd though.
