Disc Mowers and conditioners

I've a 3 drum trailed mower with a conditioner and in heavy meadows the grass will get clogged around the conditioner.

I'm wondering do the disk mowers with conditioners (like the JD1350/1360) get clogged in heavy meadows?

Take the conditioner off ,just 2 bolts will now anything then, easier driven and a great topper !

Thats not much help, I'm cutting silage with it and don't want to have to come along and row it back up

Disk mower will perform better than a drum mower. I have a jd and not once did I have issues with the conditioner.

If you want a fast way of destroying the mower go ahead and top with it!

What have you driving it? I have heard of a few contractors lately with front and back mowers having the same issue. The general consensus seems to be a lack of power up front as it is only happening to lads that have a tractor that is only just about big enough. Any lad running the mowers with 20 or 30 extra horses to spare seem to be having no problems. And as well, the cases I have hear are different and mower combinations so the mower isn't being blamed

I've a 140HP JD driving it so loads of horses.
The tractor isn't under any pressure. It will drive it no problem, but the heavy swarths are clogging the conditioner which will stop it, resulting in a plume of smoke from the belts as the drive stays going, but the conditioner stops

Slow down a little, the conditioner can't cope with the heavy grass so it looks like the only quick solution is to slow your speed.

I had 2 seasons with a 1355 and then 3 seasons with the 1365 outting cira 3000 acres through each year. JD 6506 and 6610 providing the power. Never once had any trouble with conditioner getting blocked. Put oats, barley and peas through it down through the years and found it very reliable. Even got the lid of on old septic tank stuck across the conditioner one night. I have since heard some old colleagues that are still in the game have moved to Tarrup and one to a Kuhn and reckoned they were a lot easrier to drive than the JD. I have never mowed with anything else so I can't say. It times of rising diesel costs an easier run machine might be a smart option.

I think those mowers have a bit of a name for themselves with this sort of problem. I only encountered this problem once with a disc moco and in that case the grass was gone very strong and wiry. I'm not really too sure what you can do in the short term roosterman but maybe look at a different mower for the next time you cut?

Problem is, I've 40 acres of stuff to cut (hopefully Thursday) and its about 6 weeks late due to it being a low lying field and it was too wet to do a few weeks ago in that dry spell. So at the moment the grass is well flattened from the weather and I know it won't flow through the mower. I've a feeling I'll drag out the 5'6" bamford to do it yet :D

I had the same problem with a 245 two weeks ago . I took off the conditioner and it cut everything in front of it . It leaves a wider swathe but I'm sure it could still be picked up . Those mowers will cut an early standing crop with the conditioner but will not handle heavy lying grass
My contractor rakes so the swathe is not a problem for me

if it was me .i would change belts and tension back right back up,they are worn now as you have seen smoke from slipping, they were not tight enough.

I think the JF is somewhat infamous for this happening. I have only ever had a Krone and JD, only time the conditioner got choked was in the Krone and that was when the slip clutch was a bit loose.

I didn't chance the JF in the end. It would never have managed it cos the grass so so matted up. Cut it with the Bamford and rowed it up Thursday. Baled yesterday and this morning was finished. 410 bales all stacked up now too. Happy days

You should have pulled off the conditioner , I knocked 60 acted of my own this week with the jf and 20 for a neighbour where ground was too wet for his jd

Next time. Wednesday afternoon when I decided to cut I couldn't be arsed taking it apart in the hope it would work. I knew the other yoke would fly it so played it safe
