I started orthotontist treatment about 2 years ago, the total cost is 5000k, I have 2k left to pay off on this, I have heard I can clain back 20 percent back, can I do this any time of the year or can I only claim back tax at the end of the year, if I can only claim back at the end of the year ,would it be in my best interests if I have this paid off in complete by the years end

You are entitled to tax relief on non-routine dental expenses @20%. To claim this ask your dentist to complete a Med 2 form. You cannot claim relief until after the end of the tax year. So for any payments made to your orthodontist in 2012, you cannot claim tax on this until 1 January 2013.
You can claim for any payments made so far in 2010 and 2011 at any time though. The easiest way of doing this using Revenue's online service.
A claim for tax relief must be made within 4 years after the end of the tax year to which the claim relates.

Given that tax relief is only 20% there is not a huge benefit to paying the 2k in advance to claim the relief early. I would be reticent to pay in advance for a service that hasn't been delivered and would only pay the final instalment of your treatment when the treatment has been completed to your satisfaction.

About 2-3 weeks depending on how busy Revenue are. I think the last time I made a claim it was in my bank account in less than 2 weeks. Might be processed quicker if you do it online rather than by post.

All good advice...but after spending 5 million on your teeth your accountant will sort out the rest surely...:)
