I was just wondering what the standard of Irish (if any) is in the force nowadays? Always grew up being told that it was a requirement that a garda had to have fluent Irish, but that seems to have died out a bit? Also, what's the law regarding your right to be dealt with as Gaeilge? I tried a couple of books/websites but couldn't find much on the matter!
    Go raibh maith agaibh

Also, what's the law regarding your right to be dealt with as Gaeilge?

You have the right to be dealt with through Irish by any public service in the country, including AGS.

This is dealt with in the official languages act, which you should be able to find on www.irishstatutebook.ie somewhere.

However, unless the Garda you deal with is fluent in Irish and is able to deal with you through Irish or is able easily to make a Gaelgoir available to you, you will just come across as being an awkward sort of a person if you force him to make efforts to supply you with a Gaelgoir and you will most likely be dealt with as an awkward sort of a person.
