Hey guys, hope this is the right forum.

Basically last week i got the old BSOD and was unable to read the error message before it restarted. It then went to restart and the screen stayed black. I tried booting it a few times after and it managed to turn on once giving a picture however since this happened there is no picture.

When i turn it on now with no picture it sounds like the pc is booting hitting the BSOD then restarting..(keeping in mind that i have the speakers plugged in and there is no physical sound this is just me listening to the sounds of the hdd and clicks) Now obvisouly I cant see anything here... The monitor works For sure, tested it with the xbox, and i swapped out my ram for my older ram to rule that out.

All that im wondering if this would be a good sign that the card has pooped out (there has been blue/red artifacting lines before but they have dissapeared before) before i consider something drastic like baking my card or buying a new one!

    Thanks for any help,

    Brian.

Next time it is booting keep tapping f8 to get a boot menu...
Select Disable automatic reboot on system halt (Something like that i cant remember the exact wording of it)

When it reboots again it will halt at the stop error screen (BSOD)
Post back here with the stop error code.

Follow THIS guide to disable automatic restart on system failure. Take note of the bluescreen error, in particular the 0xXXXXXX error code (X denotes a number), please post the error code here for assistance. If you see any files .sys etc mantioned in the BSOD, mention them here (sometimes driver failure causes the bsod)

Cheers for the advice on the turning off the automatic reboot however i cant actully do this at the moment, as i dont have any picture on the screen and do not have an onboard graphics out port.

Im thinking about buying a new pci-e card (as i dont have a spare one, only old agp ones and my motherboard dos not support these)? I was wondering if what is happening would normally indicate a graphics card failure as I dont know first hand if this is the case as it has never happened to me before, and was hoping to not waste 100+ euro on a new card. I have remounted my ram and even replaced my new ram with older ram i had been using on the pc but no joy.

    Thanks for any help,

    Brian.

can you test the card in another pc? or have another power supply you could try? if it's a pcie card, i'd remove it and make sure the fan/heatsink isn't clogged full of dust as well.. overheating could well be an issue.

if you can't rma the card and decide to bake it.. i'd be interested to know how it went ;)

    Hey dyer,

Unfortunatly no one else i know nearby has a pcie compatable motherboard so i cant check it out. I have opened it up and removed all the dust under the fan (wasn't too much but any is too much i guess) if i do wind up baking it before i can get my hands on a new gpu i will post pics for your enjoyment!

    Cheers,

    Brian.

Ok so i baked my card and it is displaying again! Whohoo!

Only one slight problem tho.. The screen sticks to the bios and i seem to be unable to enter bios as the pc wont allow me to use my keyboard to enter it(its a wireless keyboard). I ust to be able to use this keyboard to enter the bios before (as in two months or so again) and im just wondering if restarting the pc loads of times might have had an adverse effect on it?

If i bought a normal usb keyboard do you think this would make much of a difference for bios entry? Also as a side note, im using silicone based thermal paste for the gpu after reassembly I would have thought that this would have sufficed however would this hanging at bios be caused by the gpu not getting heat taken away fast enough and should I upgrade to a metal or ceramic based paste? (i know that the metal based would be better however i dont get paid for anotheqr few days and would prefer to keep using the silicone one if it will suffice).

Thanks for any advice and will post pictures of the baking when i get my pc working again cant do it from the gf's ipad!

ya crazy fekcer.. that should have been your last resort having checked everything else :)

are you getting any beep messages? or does it just hang at the bios after it posts? wasn't quite sure if you got it to boot fully or not.

you could try clearing the cmos (remove the battery or short pins) and see if it picks up your keyboard then. if not maybe you could try it in a few different usb slots and reboot and hopefully it will detect it.. if not.. you might need a wired keyboard to enable usb in the bios.

ps, i doubt thermal paste has much to do with your current woes unless you slopped it on of course.

Ya it was a but of a spur of the moment thing, however with no way to check anything out and the way it baod'd i had to assume the old beast was the culpret, at least now i know i was right in that it was the graphics card what with some type of display comming up now :)

So far i have tried removing the batt from the motherboard for 5 mins then replacing it again and trying all usb slots attached directly to the motherboard as well as the ones that are from the case and not directly attached! Also there is one post beep which has always been the case, i was dredding turning it on after the ez-baking in case i heard the graphics briken beeps!

Im hoping its just the keyboard at this stage causing hassle with the bios, i ust to have two spare usb wired ones however these went away when i got a wireless one and moved house (not enough room to move em all). I will however be back in galway at the weekend and can try the fathers old ps/2 keyboard , i was thinking about buying a cheap usb one but feared it wouldnt work without at least using it once with windows loaded up and just ending up costing me cash :/

Im hoping to be able to pull some recent pictures from the hdd before reformatting it which is why id like to get past the bios just once, even if it is in safe mode just to pull all info from the hdd then wipe it :)
