What RAM do I need?

Hi all,

Need to upgrade my RAM but nned to know what to get. My machine is a Dell Inspirion 6400 and has 2 slots with 512 in each. The 2 slots can take a max of 1GB each.

Accoring to http://www.crucial.com, my machine has DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC) RAM.

Can anyone tell me the type I need. Am I correct in saying I can only use DDR2 (as opposed to DDR3) and that I can only use non-ECC?

Also, can anyone tell me any cheap sites top buy RAM (with a minimum of fuss). Dell.ie has RAM for 55 quid. Seems a bit high for 2GB.

unfortunately, ddr2 RAM has become expensive cause its EOL.

you can still do much cheaper than DELL though.

get 2 of those. memoryc is free delivery, and if for some reason it doesn't work they do a 28 day money back. you're also covered by the distance selling act for 7 days. I only say this cause some Dells are temperamental with RAM.

The linked RAM says 240 pins. How do I know my Dell supports 240 pins?

it doesnt go the the Homepage for me, but yea, thats the ram you want.
