Just wondering, how long would the car tax have to be out of date on a, oh I don't know, just picking a car brand out of the sky, oh I know, say a Merc?

Are you a member of the Seanad? :D Seriously though, Gardai can impound a vehicle under Section 41(1) of the Road Traffic Act if the car is untaxed for over 60 days.

Type of car has nothing to do with, doesn't matter if it's a Merc or a micra, once the tax is out 2 months it can be seized.

2 months grace without motor tax seems to be a very fair and reasonable length of time. Thanks.

Thats not what I said at all.

It's not two months grace, you can still be ticketed, €60 fine from the day your tax expires.

You just wont be towed until 2 months after the expiry of your disc.
