Cycling Ireland calendar says there is also the Beechmount cup on Saturday the 11th at 2pm in Kilmessan. Can anyone confirm that there will be racing both days? Or just on the Sunday?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,923 ✭✭✭wav1

Beechmount cup races go ahead on Sat 10th,but please note that the start time is 7pm Sat evening and not 2pm as per handbook. This was printed in error.Sat nites race is one handicapped event for all over 42km[3 x laps] of the same circuit as Sunday.

Did the A4, first open race in a good few weeks so was unsure of how i would feel. Benner took off from the gun, and we turned around 2 minutes later to see that we were off on our own, not a good idea at that stage, so we slowed up! The pace was ridiculously slow on the first lap and a half, ony a handful of us (Usher chap/Orwell chap and few others) did turns at the front. Tried a few attacks but again, the same oul story of the whole group sprinting to catch us, and then to sit up again, frustrating! And so it went on for 3 and a half laps! I did too much at the front on the last lap with an Usher and St. Tiernans (?) guy, and had nothing for the gallop, but really enjoyed the day. Great course and mostly fine weather! Well done to the Campbell boys in fine performances for Drogheda Wheelers today in A3 and Junior, flying!

Did the main race today . Some pretty hairy ridng on the wrong side of the road which resulted in what sounded like a very nasty crash. Saw ambulance rushing the opposite way to attend the crash, hope no-one was too badly hurt.

Yeah the A4 race was slow in general. Think on the first lap it got down to 25kph at one point. That said I wasn't complaining as I was racing the night before, so I wanted an easy day and keep it all for the end. Coming up to the end it got a bit hairy. One moment I was in a good place behind Colm_GTI and the next I was swamped in the middle of the bunch. Managed to get around but it took a big effort and found myself at the front too early. Kept it going but not pushing too much, however when it came time to stand up and sprint, I didn't have it in the legs. Think I came over the line around 10th or 11th.

Out for the A4 race, main aim was to get Martin V. the points 5 points he needed to upgrade to A3. For a change I sat in for most of the first lap, as usual got bored an agitated by the 25kmph average and people sitting up looking around for the next person to do some work so none of them had to, went out in front and started grinding away with one or two others for the 2nd and 3rd laps to bump up the pace a bit, tried to go away in one or two breaks closed down any others, then in the final lap, came around the last tight bend, looking for Martin who ended up being the last to come round, eased up the pace a bit to let him catch on, then started pedalling like a lunatic, realised a few others had tried to squeeze in so I sat up, got shouted at for not leading some Mullingar lad out, shouted back at him to do some work for a change, ended up middle of the bunch with Martin on my wheel, but nowhere to go, when a gap started opening to the left when everyone was trying to place themselves on the wrong side of the road so as not to get locked in, shouted at Martin to follow me, started moving up the inside screaming at lads to let my presence be known, pedalled my legs off again going up the last drag and blew up. Think Martin came in at 6th, so got one point for the efforts.

Nice fast course weather held out nicely, first week I don't have to clean my bike this year!

One Deanside wheelers lad was a bit out of order. He kept squeezing up the inside when the gaps were tiny, put a few lads off and could have caused a bad accident, then pretty much pushed some chap towards the car we met on the last lap. Couple of people spoke to him about it but he had no interest in listening...

mixed weekend for me in Kilmessan rode sat 42kph for the 40k good fun was never under pressure even had a dig up the road at one stage i picked up an unplaced pot in the sprint after the swords lead out train worked to plan for once a happy bunny
Sunday A4,well not many of us came to race im afraid,i was active early on tried a few times to get something going but without the constant speed it gives guys to much time to recover so its hard to brake the line so i decided to take it easy and wait for the inevitable sprint the legs were felling and bit heavy after the last nights workout anyway
On the run to the finish i got a perfect run up the inside came over the bridge in 5th place or so i opened up just after that probably a bit early but it didnt matter anyway the legs were empty so had to watch the race go by me, i enjoyed the saturday race much more is the best way i can put it :(
Thanks to Navan for running the show a grate spread both days and it didnt rain almost ! hope the fallers in the A race are all ok

Great Race. I love flat races. I was very impressed by the 15 years old Sorrento riders ( No name since he's a minor)who finished on his own about 5 or more minutes ahead of the next man home.

I need to rant about that Thinkbike guy with a temp licence who raced with the women for 3 laps having been dropped out of his group. He was mixing with us, taking wheels of our riders, following attacks etc. He was told a dozen time to leave, but wouldn't listen.
    @ luskdoyle : NO, this wasn't Beasty.)

There were 21 or 22 women, which is a decent turn out. Our avg speed was 35.7kph according to strava.

Well done to Caroline_ie for her extraordinary on-the-bike punditry, as well as a placing :)

The ThinkBike guy wasn't cool at all, he was told plenty of times to get out of the group, but stayed in and acted the maggot. Bad form.

Most of the guys that came down[about 7 or 8] all ok.Think one of the juns has a fractured wrist and speedy recovery to him.All in all a good weekends racing.Just the usual idiots in oncoming cars who just dont want to pull in for the 1 minute it takes for the race to pass.Well done to all the youths who came out on the day also.Great riding by some of the juniors at the 2 races.Hope they can keep it going for the national champs next weekend.Well done Noel Clarke.Another hectic season of promoting done and dusted.

Some riders take the piss regarding being on the wrong side of the road.
It makes it dangerous for everyone when they cannonball their way back into the group whilst avoiding on coming traffic.
It slows everyone down also as the group moves around to let them back in.

As for the squeezing up the ditch merchants, that's another story.
Crash caused by that in the A2/3 race

I think he had a temp licence - no 29? He really annoyed me too - squeezed up the ditch at one point & jumped out of it on top of me, luckily I had a bit of space but he could easily have caused a crash there. What an ass putting other people in danger like that when his race was over!

Great race though despite that - really enjoyed it, Big thanks to the organisers!

Far too much right hand side of the road ditch hugging, I pulled out after lap 3 as I prefer my head attached to my body, fair dues to the people that finished the A1/2/3 race, but it was just ridiculous. As for ditch squeezing, don't get me started. It was a strange day by all accounts, but I do hope all are ok. In fairness, lumping A3, 1 and 2 together is too much, also, if people expect A3s to attack A1s, they must have a reality problem. PS, I was nowhere near the womens race :)

Should CI not be more active about enforcing their own rules?

Riding consistently on the wrong side should result in a sanction/ban and is easily observed by the commissares.

We all pull dodgy moves from time to time but if someone is either so clueless or such a w*nker that they're a danger to all around them there should be a clear way to deal with them. A facility to name and shame terrible riding?

Some serious injuries and worse this season...

On a lighter note, some Dude was riding an all black 'crow' bike with deep section wheels, best looking bike I've seen in a long time.
